Myst IV

Post by Val »

Am considering purchasing Myst IV and as it is hellish expensive here to buy games, would appreciate some feedback from members who have played it.
Do I presume that it is not like Uru (where I had trouble adjusting to the jumping as explained elsewhere) and that it is like the old Myst games?
Have read reviews and they are all positive but need reassurance about the jumping!! :)

There is definitly no jumping involved. It's more of a Riven/Exile style game ,but with a better story.

There are a few obscure puzzles mostly in one disappointing age (Spire) and a couple of timed sequences, but they are not that bad.

Overall an excellent game that I would recommend playing.

What I have read so far about the game and the different reviews (latest at JA) the game is not far away "producing a (excuse my language) gaming orgasm  .

Obviously I have not progressed quite far enough yet, but I shall persist in the pursuit of this goal. :)

Am enjoying this game immensely, taking my time and avoiding hints, so far.
The best game since the original IMHO.

Have ordered Myst IV and am now awaiting delivery!!! Thanks everyone for making it an easy decision. Our long summer vacation is almost here (beginning December) and have six weeks to crack it! Can't wait.
Thanks again for the input.

There is no jumping. However, there are other timing/dexterity tests. One is fairly easy, one is of middling difficulty until you have failed it a couple of times and figured out the timing, and one is damn tough.

BJ, did you know that there is now a patch out for Myst IV? It supposedly gives more time for the spider chair puzzle, among other things.

No, I didn't know that. That would be a big help, as that was the toughest dexterity puzzle of the game. Hell, it's the toughest puzzle of the game period.

Unfortunatly I hear the patch actually causes more problems than it fixes so avoid at all costs

Well, it doesn't seem as bad as all that, Lucien - here are some links:

Patch

Info that it fixes

Removing, tinkering, fixing the patch, and a great deal of info about it

Got Myst Iv installed on Wednesday and it is STUNNING!! Graphics are really great. Played the opening sequence three times! :) :) Can't wait for the weekend.
Is it my imagination or do DVDs make a huge difference to the quality?

It is a beautiful game, and the first I've played on DVD. The quality is excellent, and the story has captured me. I can't wait to get back to it.
