What are your graphics preferences? You can pick more than one.

I enjoy hand painted backgrounds the most. 2D and Full Motion Video coming next in line.

2D with either 1st person games or 3rd person games.
Hand painted is good, whether it's photorealistic or rendered as pixel art.

For some reason I like the color palettes used in 256 color games from the 1990's.
In some games I think they look better than 16-bit color (65535 colors), though this may have more to do with the skill of the artists than the color depth.

I should probably have voted for "photo" because I enjoy seeing pictures of Sweden from the Carol Reed games. I also enjoyed the photography in the Capri/Anacapri series of games.

What the graphics look like to some degree indicates how the game will be controlled.
A 2D game will likely use point-and-click navigation and easy inventory management.

There aren't many adventure games that I enjoy that use 3D navigation.
Many of them I can't play at all due to nausea, and that includes some 3rd person games.
So seeing a game with real time 3D graphics can mean uh-oh
while seeing one with 2D graphics would get me interested in the game.

In this order, 2D, Hand Painted and Full motion video if properly produced.

And I agree with middletoe

The only graphic style I'm not fond of is the newer highly pixelated one that can be found in games like Darkside Detective. It's an artistic choice that just doesn't appeal to me.

Oh dear! I don't think I can vote on this - I can think of games I love that use all of those (not to mention some without graphics at all!) and none of them would have been the same if they'd used different styles. The important thing is for the graphics to fit the game - Gone Home wouldn't have worked with more abstract, pixellated artwork and Beeswing or the Lands of Dream games wouldn't work their magic so well in photorealistic 3D.

Is this just out of interest, GL? Or are you doing a little market research?

I was thinking recently that I so love the painted backgrounds and not so much Unity engine graphics. So I was curious what you all preferred. Also to spark some conversation. :)

Full Motion Video all the way. Always love it, even though it sometimes can be a bit cheesy.
