Obscuriana - An Adventure addict's archive 'exposed'

Post by Gelert »

Hi Ghostlady, LadyK, JK, Draclvr, Jen (Bastiche, if you're still around - sorry if I forget others . . good pals), and other good MM friends. Recently, because of my compulsive 'collecting' era, I discovered (rediscovered), a few CDs I made on which I downloaded game demos and even soundtracks from games past - Yes. I did a lot of Gelert-typical hunting and many of these games were NEVER actually made.
IF, and this is a BIG if, any of them are still viable on these CDs, how would I share them amongst good friends here, IF anyone is interested? I even downloaded freeware and shareware complete games. I only know this from the labels I put on the CDs and have no idea whatsoever if ANY of them are 'okay'.
If there's a demand, I'll even eBay them (probably not strictly lawful), but I thought I'd ask here first in case some of my MM friends would like to see them . . IF they work.
This, I must warn is purely speculative, as I've no idea if what I copied will work ANYWHERE. I will try to test on my Win 98 PC when I get the chance.
I don't want to send the CDs. I just wondered if I can share them online to good past friends here that may be interested.

P.S. I also want to let you know that, I really miss our 'golden era' of Adventure game enthusiasm, one that can't really ever be revived as it was, but that it's great to see you all again. :) . . even though, I admit, I have drifted away from playing these beautiful games in recent years. x

Hey there Gelert, since you have a web server, could you copy the files there and only share the links privately? It sounds like your webhost is kinda wonky, so I don’t know if that’s an option. Alternatively, you could do it via Dropbox or the like.

Hi Gelert...don't feel badly about drifting away from games. After I retired and became my Mom's caregiver, I had no time for gaming other than casual games that don't require the commitment a full fledged adventure does. Mom passed two years ago and I have now ventured back into the adventure world...playing the boxed games that have gone untouched in my game bookcase. I've played some Nancy Drews, Sherlock Holmes, CSI, Murder in the Abbey, Dark Fall Lost Souls (very depressing), Murder in the Abbey, Everlight, and Book of Unwritten Tales (so good!!!!). I even played a Puzzle 3D on my old Windows XP laptop. I've also downloaded a bunch from Steam that have been added to my "to be played" pile, since folks have been recommending them here and I add them to my wishlist and buy them when they're on sale. I likely will never play all the games in my bookcase, as my tastes have changed over time. That's okay, though.

Our love of games brought us all to this site, but even though I wasn't playing, it's been nice getting to know folks here over time and making cyber friends. I tried to do the same at AP, but many times I would visit and no one was around so I drifted away. I'm glad you're back to the manor and look forward to getting reacquainted.

I was also away from playing games for about 3 or 4 years. I've just recently started up again. Like JK, I plan to play some of my boxed games that I never got to and also some new ones. The collecting has lost its appeal so now I am using GOG and Steam and looking for sales. I found a bunch of Sherlocks that I haven't played on sale on GOG today for $2.49. :)
Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again...
