I am Madame X

Post by Ghostlady »

This was an awesome book if you like historical fiction.

Virginie Gautreau had her portrait painted by John Singer Sargent in a dress that was considered provocative and shameful. It ruined John Singer Sargent's career in France and he had to move on to England. Virginie felt the scorn for the rest of her life.

It takes place before and after the Civil War in France and Louisiana on Parlange Plantation

which is still in the same family and is still a viable plantation,

That does sound like a great read. Interesting how your new avatar with Mona and Froderick shows Mona in a very similar dress!

Why, yes I did, my dear! Especially in the full view version, the similarity is striking!

Sounds like a great and interesting read - I must look out for this book - I just love historical fiction - can't get enough of it.
