This is not a Big Fish game but it plays a lot like one. It is episodic, but there are five episodes available now and I’m not sure there will be more. The ending was satisfactory. There is a thin story tied together by puzzles and exploration. There are some unusual puzzles and some of the same ol’ kinds. There is some repetition of puzzle types, but there is a skip option. I enjoyed the puzzles and only skipped one, by accident. There are some hidden object scenes, which are stupid filler in my opinion, but not so many as to be a main part of the game. The first episode is free to play. You can either buy episodes individually, which would add up to too much $$$ for this type of game, or get a “season pass,” which is all episodes for a good deal cheaper. It is pretty long. It took me about 7 hours with no hints and only the one accidental puzzle skip. There are many collectibles for no good reason. I filled 7 of 15 categories. There is also some kind of alphabet collectible outside of the collectible collection, and I have no idea what those are for. There are achievements. I got about half, all of the ones awarded just for progressing through the game and none of the other ones. They are kind of weird. For example, there is no achievement for taking no hints but there is one for taking more than 5 hints. That’s no kind of achievement in my world!
It was a fun way to waste a day but nothing to write home about. I’d rate it about 3.75 out of 5, a high medium.
Adera
Re: Adera
I think I played the first three episodes of Adera when it was offered at the Microsoft Store only as episodes. I remember liking it quite a lot, but I grew a little annoyed with having to pay what I thought was too much for each new episode. Don't even remember how much it was now!
