The Procession to Calvary

Post by Jen »

This is a game by Joe Richardson, the same guy who did Four Last Things. It’s a point-n-click in the old style, where you have to pick a verb to interact with things. You play as a fat, stabby guy in ye olden days, who is just finishing up a stabbing spree when he comes up against a change in governance and is told that murdering is no longer okay. So you head off to kill Heavenly Peter, the rat bastard who was the old governance.

The puzzles are kinda hard, despite the relative paucity of inventory items, locations, and characters. I ended up f’ing myself when I had the bright idea to start solving puzzles with my sword. The game even warned me not to do it, and I did it anyway. It closed off a lot of avenues, such that once I started going all stabby on everyone, I was left with no choice but to go all stabby on everyone else because they didn’t want to talk to a murderer. I got to the end of the game and was told that I lost, boo hoo. I’m not sorry I did it because it was funny, but now I have to replay with a more pacifist approach 😛 Not today, though.

I really liked it and will like it again when I play the “right” way. I’d give it a 4.5. Here are some pics.

I replayed the game today with no...well, hardly any...stabbing. The game lasted a lot longer this time around, and there was lots more to see and do 😬 I ultimately got three different endings. It was fun, and I would recommend it to any fan of classic adventure games a la LucasArts. There are some really clever parts to it, and with a little patience, it was beatable without a walkthrough.
