Outlander
Outlander
I read all the Outlander books by Diana Galbadon, eight of them, I believe. Now I'm watching the series on Netflix. It follows Claire Randall, a WWII army nurse as she accidentally is thrown into the past in the Scottish Highlands after touching a standing stone. Suddenly it's 1743 and she is in the middle of the British colonization of Scotland. A love story over the ages ensues with further time travel and it's just a mesmerizing story. The production on Netflix is so good even hubby is loving it! He does have a hard time with the Irish and Scottish accents, but is getting most of it. When I finished the books, I felt like was practically speaking Gaelic!

If I remember correctly, it is a very sexy show. No wonder your hubby is loving it.

Actually, he is enjoying the historical part of it far more! There are some tastefully done sex scenes, but after the wedding episode, they have disappeared for the time being!

I know! I actually kind of laughed at him when he said how much he liked the show and all the history and never even mentioned all the steamy sex!

Re: Outlander
I read the first book several years ago and really liked it. The second one is sitting on my shelf, and I plan to get to it in 2021.
Another book series that reminds me of Gabaldon's books starts with The Little Shop of Found Things by Paula Brackston. A mother and daughter move from London to Marlborough to set up an antique shop. The daughter, Xanthe, can sometimes tell the history of an antique just by handling it. One of them, a chatelaine, ends up pulling her back in time to 1605, where she discovers an injustice that needs to be made right and an architect who attracts her. I recommend it for the history, mystery, and romance. The second book is Secrets of the Chocolate House, which I haven't read yet.

I have watched the whole series and it is so good! The production value is very high, and you feel like you're actually there in Scotland. I have started to pick up the books and they are very descriptive as well.

I was reading some articles on the production and one said the standing stones are actually created of styrofoam! I would have never guessed!
