A long time adventure gamer

Post by Chimera Myst »

Hello everyone ! :D
Am looking forward to browsing this site. Love the layout !

Have been playing adventure games since the very first Myst game.
I miss some great oldies and wish there was a way to buy them and get them to run on Win 10.
Probably won't work, but nostalgia nevertheless.

I loved the Sacred Amulet and some other Cryo titles.
I think there was a company called Nobilis ?
Also Microids and Kheops.

I haven't played them for a while but I do own some Kheops titles.
The Cleopatra game and the Mysterious Island, as well as the (moon) Voyage and the Dracula games.
Nothing more relaxing than a quiet game.

Welcome to Mystery Manor, Chimera Myst! It's so great to see a gamer who likes the older titles. It's been wonderful that places like GOG are offering the older games already tweaked to play on new systems. Another member just finished good old Shivers 1 from back in 1995!

Please make yourself at home and jump in on any of the forum threads. Just don't mind the cat hair on the chairs and please bring a glass of wine or a cup of tea with you!

Welcome, CM! I have discovered a number of the older games play well in Windows 10. As Drac suggested, GOG is a good resource to download older games to play on the newer machines. Another good resource is Steam. I had never played Amerzone and tried to install it on my Windows 10 machine only to be unable to install it using my external OD drive. I decided to check Steam and found it on sale, no less for a whopping 49 cents! So I downloaded it and it launched well. I'm getting ready to start it as I just finished House of Da Vinci (also from Steam). If you enjoy mechanical puzzles, I highly recommend that game as well as the Room games, which are also available at a reasonable price from Steam.

As Drac said, bring a beverage and jump in any time in our discussion threads. That's where I actually got the recommendations to the Room and HODV games. Ghostlady has made this a very comfortable and friendly place...as have many of the manorites...particularly the regulars.

Welcome to the Manor, Chimera Myst! I am also a fan of the Cryo games, Microids, Arxel Tribe and Got Game. I've recently been playing a stash of older games that I've never played and having lots of fun doing it. I think you'll find the Manor and it's inhabitants a nice and relaxing place to visit. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to hear what gaming adventures you have in store for us.

Thanks for the warm welcome, draclvr, Ghostlady, JKEerie, and everyone !

I own the Myst Exile discs, but am considering buying it again through GOG in case it doesn't work on Win 10.
I've already bought Riven and RealMyst through that site.

I've purchased Amerzone through BigFishGames.
Loved Benoit Sokal's titles and their games have so much of a story behind them !

Will purchase more and am also going to check out Steam.

:hi Chimera Myst! I revisited Myst again recently with the RealMyst Masterpiece edition and had fun with it. Even though I've played the game several times, including Myst Masterpiece and the original RealMyst, I laughed at myself when I had trouble finding the brothers' rooms in Channelwood. (That's what I get for forgetting to turn around in a certain place.) :D

Anyway, enjoy your stay here at the manor and visit often.
