HDMI Cables for Monitor
HDMI Cables for Monitor
Does anyone know if a HDMI cable vs USB, would have any affect on how graphics are displayed on a monitor?

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
I think HDMI carries more signal bandwidth. I’m not sure if you remember having to hook up consoles and DVD players and such to your tv using those cables with the five plugs, three for the three colors of video and two for stereo sound. Well, HDMI is that, condensed down to one plug. So I’m thinking you will see an improvement but probably only if you have an HD monitor.
P.S.I just pulled most of that out of my butt, but it would only cost you $5 or $6 to try it out. Again, I wouldn’t bother unless you have a high-def monitor.

Lol. Would a monitor have HDMI plug if it was not high definition?

I don’t know, probably not.
Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
I am doing some testing and was curious if HDMI cables had a different affect on graphics. Ordered a USB cord and it’s coming tomorrow. Then we shall see.

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
OK. So USB doesn't carry graphics, so I'm not sure what you are using it for. HDMI is excellent for being able to carry both graphics and sound. High Definition Multiple Input. Your new monitor definitely has high definition. Connections for carrying graphics are the old VGA, HDMI or Display Port.

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
Some monitors have a built in USB hub - maybe that's what would cause this confusion?
Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
Yes, mine has a USB hub too. I wondered the same thing.

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
I am pretty sure what has happened. An update came down on my graphics card. I have an old computer and these updates have never affected it before but this time it did. That's why I was seeing my graphics all weird. Not only did one update come down but I did a second one. So when I try to roll back, it will only let me do one and I can't get back to the original one I had. It's complaining about the game now and will only run in a windowed mode. Numerous people are complaining about this issue stating it is a hardware incompatibility. I guess its time to bite the bullet and get a new machine.

What was the USB cable for?

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
I thought the HDMI cable was causing the graphics to display funky. I was using an older monitor and thought downgrading to USB would fix it. I was way off.

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
But you can't use USB for video. To downgrade, you would have gone to your VGA port if the monitor had one.

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
There were USB ports on the monitor so I assumed.

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor
That's kind of what we thought might be the case. For viewing video from your video card on your computer, there are these options. I forgot one of the most common ones - DVI! So you have to match up the port on your video card to the ports available on your monitor.
