Routers
Routers
I think I need to get another router to improve the Wifi where I live. The router I got from the lot supplying broadband may not up to it. Any recommendations? This is as a result of getting a new laptop which suffered from dropped connections, digging into the debris there’s contention (I changed a channel) but also poor signal to noise.

Hi Kickaha, until the experts come along, it could be your New laptop that needs to be looked at, Windows 10 which I am pretty sure that is what you have unless you bought a Mac, and sometimes New means it is not properly configured for Internet in your area or your machine. Try plugging your laptop directly to your modem to see if this helps. Unplug your wifi and wait 30 seconds, replug and see if that helps. Check with your provider to see if they can help and or supply you with an upgraded wifi modem.
Good luck and enjoy your new laptop, what kind of laptop did you buy? What kind of specs. does it have?

Re: Routers
I had to upgrade my modem/router to accommodate streaming vs cable for my tv. I spoke with my tv/internet provider and the tech I spoke with told me that my existing equipment would be limited. He also suggested equipment that had been tested and were compatible with their service. I went with dual bandwidth and selected a Netgear Nighthawk. It will accommodate even higher internet speeds than what I'm currently getting as the tech told me they will eventually upgrade their speeds as requirements increase.

And your provider cannot supply you a more up to date router? Until more help comes along, here are some articles I read when I got my laptop which I originally found it was slower regarding internet:

Again, best of luck and I am sure more help is on the way from the Pros on this forum, hang in there.

Thanks for the comments all. I have a M1 Macbook Pro. I'm pretty sure it is the router which is lacking, I ran Wifi Diagnostics which produced 100MBs of files, the interesting part was where that reported contention and poor signal to noise ratio before a disconnection. Things have been healthier since I changed channels on the router for the 2.4GHz band. The MacBook doesn't have an Ethernet port.
