display driver stopped responding

Post by mbday630 »

I keep getting black screens and it says that my display driver stopped responding. does that mean that this computer is on its last legs? Is there anything that I can do?

New computer? Integrated graphics? Stand alone card? Need more into!

You can always try to update those drivers.

no, this is my old windows 7 that someone got working for me again. I don't know what kind of graphics card it has - or really anything about it. How do I go about updating the drivers again?

also, after a black screen, it "comes to" and I can see the screen again, but, I get that notice about the display driver. I went to control panel and clicked on device but didn't see anything about display in there.

I "think" if I remember correctly, that this computer has an Nvidia 610 or something like that. But I don't remember what the CPU is. Look at the back and see if there are two places where you could plug a monitor in.

To find out what you actually have, go to Device Manager and click on Display Adapters. What is listed there?

I have 2 listed. An intel 4600 and nvidia gt force 1030. I had troubles before because I was connected to the intel one but we found a different slot to put the cord into so now I am using the nvidia slot. should I just go to nvidia and do an upgrade?

Yes! That will require taking this unsecured computer to the internet, but you should be OK to just download a new driver.

It has not done it again since that day. I did update my nvidia drivers, so, that probably helped. thanks.

Oh, good! I was wondering if updating the drivers did it and it sounds like it did! As you well know, not all fixes are not that easy!
