I don't think anything has changed since your original post, so I'll just link it here.

MBday...I see on the TellTale games website that there are forums for legacy games and a subforum for the Sam and Max games. Perhaps you could pose a question there and get some answers.

I hope so... It does look like the forums are active. I also wonder if she can still log into her old account.

I did hear from them, and no, they can't help me. but, I remembered that I downloaded all the games when i got them so I found my old disks. and they don't work either. I guess i am screwed. you know, if they are going out of business, they should put their games that people paid for in a separate website. I know that when insurance companies go bankrupt, they have to have so much money in a separate account to pay off old debts and stuff. I think game companies should do the same. I have one more disk to try, but, these first 2 are not working. I am pretty ticked.

You are far from alone. As middletoe said in the original thread, good luck getting your games. You might go vent in the forums... maybe someone there has found a workaround.

I imagine those disks require a link to the game on the website. And if the link is broken, it won't work. I assume the disks are from Telltale too?

yes, they are. I was thinking when I downloaded the games to a disk that they would work forever. boy, I guess I was wrong.

So, the disks are NOT from Telltale then? You just copied the installation files to a disk, right?

the disks that I have are from the original telltale game site. I get an error message of some kind every time I try to play it. I have 3 disks that I downloaded - thinking that i would always have the game. I will keep trying though. maybe the forums will have something for me. thanks everyone

OK. Let's be sure we are on the same page. Did you purchase the disks from Telltale or did you download files and copy them to a disk? You keep saying you downloaded disks... so I'm just not sure what you are saying here. It will help to know which computer you are trying to install the games on.

Let's deal with that before we deal with the Steam issue!

All the disc versions from Telltale Games require online activation.
The server for that activation is gone now. They've "updated."
All disc versions from other companies also required activation.
All the "downloads" (or installers) from Telltale require online activation -- except one.

That one DRM-free download was available only for a very short time.

I don't remember if Telltale said the DRM-free download would only be
available temporarily in the email, but they certainly said so on their website.

Why would Telltale offer a DRM-free download? I'm guessing they knew they'd be
changing servers and that their old activation system wouldn't work anymore.

Thank you, middletoe! I had no idea what all was behind all the issues with games and Telltale. So they just got rid of the server and essentially the people who purchased the games are SOL. I swear this type of DRM is worse that the outright software types.

You can get a 50% discount on the remastered version download if you buy by 1/15. I know it’s a pisser to pay anything for a game you already bought once, but it looks like the remastered version includes a lot of tweaks to bring it up to modern standards. Scroll about 3/4 down this page for details: https://skunkapegames.com/samandmax/faq/

And then about four more topics down that same faq, they seem to hint that they would restore access to the originals but not when. If you’re full of hope, you could bookmark that page and check back from time to time. Or you could take a more proactive approach and contact these Skunk Apes to see if they might be willing to help you now.
