my downloaded games from Steam

Post by mbday630 »

I hate windows 10! okay, I can play my disk games (at least the ones that I have tried) but today I downloaded a game from steam that I bought and I can't play it. the game icon is on my desktop but it keeps asking me if I want to allow it to make changes and I say yes but the games won't start. this was the testament of sherlock holmes that I was trying. however, I also downloaded critter chronicles and that wouldn't start either. the only games that I have been able to play that I downloaded are BoUT 1 and 2. How can I get my downloaded games to play? thanks again.

This very likely has nothing to do with Windows 10. My Critter Chronicles from GOG plays perfectly on my Windows 10. Does your computer meet the minimum specs which DO NOT include Windows 10 for the Sherlock Holmes game? Also neither of these games will play with integrated graphics. So, that's going to be critical in this new computer - if you have integrated graphics, there are going to be a lot of games you can't play. Maybe you can list your specs and we can take a look at it.

These are the specs listed at Steam:

Testament of Sherlock Holmes

OS:WINDOWS XP SP3/WINDOWS VISTA SP2/WINDOWS 7
Processor:AMD/INTEL DUAL-CORE 2 GHZ
Memory:2048 MB RAM
Graphics:256 MB 100% DIRECTX 9 AND SHADERS 3.0 COMPATIBLE ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT/NVIDIA GEFORCE 8600 GT OR HIGHER
DirectX®:9.0c

Same with Critter Chronicles

OS:Windows XP SP3, Vista, 7, 8
Processor:3 GHz
Memory:1 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9c compatible graphic card with 256 MB RAM, Pixelshader 2.0
DirectX®:9.0c

well, I might be asking you this question again in a few years but as of today, I have my old windows 7 back - which feels like old home week! whew. so, I can play my games again. I just stored this crappy windows 10 computer for a back up. it works well for my docusigns and stuff but that is about it.

Just don't take that Windows 7 on the internet for anything. I've been reading more and more about hackers taking advantage of people refusing to stop using it after there have been no security updates for almost a year. No anti-virus program can protect you from that stuff.

I have a feeling your problem on that other computer is NOT Windows 10, but that is it not capable of playing very many games because it has integrated graphics.

that could be. it is just a backup computer as I had a lot of things to docusign and I needed a computer fast. but, now that I have my windows 7 back, everything is good. I am very careful of what I post and my transactions - in fact, I do most of my stuff on my phone, so I think I am good in that regard. this old windows 7 is mainly for my games, which I love.

Sounds like the best of both worlds! Don't put that Windows 7 on line for ANY reason and you should be OK. I wouldn't even use it to come here.
