how to put d drive on my computer
how to put d drive on my computer
I am using this crappy windows 10 new computer. I hate it. I can't find my d: drive anywhere and I want it added to my computer. also, there is a big black screen above and below everything that I see on my screen. I want the screen to take up the whole monitor and I don't know how to change that. help please.
Re: how to put d drive on my computer
First, is this a new computer or an upgrade to your old one? I think it's new, but I don't remember for sure.
To resolve the screen issue, this is a matter of it rendering correctly on your monitor. Try this first... right click anywhere on the desktop and select Display Settings. This is where you can set your monitor resolution etc. This is no different from Windows 7. Select the correct resolution for your monitor.
Are you asking how to add a D drive to your computer? Or are you just looking for it? Is your D drive internal or external? Is it a hard drive or SSD or is it an optical drive?
Have you looked in your File Explorer? Click on the manilla file looking icon at the bottom of the screen. Then click on This PC on the left. This is what mine looks like. Again, this is exactly the same as it was on Windows 7.

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
I have a d: drive as I put in a disk and it played. but, i can't find it and when I go to the manilla folder at the bottom and click on this PC it just has videos and when i click on that it says capture. nothing about a d: drive. and thanks for the tip about display settings. I think that fixed it.

Did you click on This PC on the left? Then click on This PC on the left.

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
when I open that yellow folder on the bottom it only has desktop, downloads, documents, pictures, music and videos in it. there is nothing that shows a pc on the left.
Re: how to put d drive on my computer
So you don't see anything like this on the left? Quick Access has a bunch of stuff under it including Desktop, Documents, Downloads etc. Then the next headings are my One Drive, This PC, Network, etc.

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
ah, there was an up arrow and when I clicked on that it showed my d drive. so, I then right clicked on the d drive and pinned it to start and also to quick access. hopefully now I will be able to find it! thank you so much Drac!

Whew! I knew it was all there!

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
You can blame Microsoft for the confusion.
Ever since Vista I've had problems seeing what was on CD or DVD drives.
Microsoft wants to scan everything on the CD or DVD disc before displaying it -- just in case a virus magically popped up out of nowhere. Windows takes over half an hour to do the stupid scan, and until it's done I can't even see what files are on the disc so don't even know if the disc is the one I'm interested in.
Yes, Windows 10 makes it all worse, but the nonsense didn't start with 10.
It doesn't help that modern laptops seem to want to display optical drives as removable drives, as if they are flash drives or external USB drives.

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
That is so odd! I have NEVER ONCE had Windows try to scan a disc in my optical drive. I can go read a disk to see if it's the one I want immediately.
That wasn't mbday's problem anyway. She just hadn't expanded her This PC to be able to view all her drives.

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
It's not a problem I ever had with XP and earlier.
It first appeared with Vista, and has been a royal pain ever since.
Windows thinks all your stuff is a virus.
If you never had the problem with 10, that explains why you're OK with 10 while some of us think it's annoying garbage.
Re: how to put d drive on my computer
Her problem was that she couldn't see what was on her D: drive, and that is certainly related.
Clicking "This PC" doesn't work if you don't have a disc in the drive. Windows acts like there is nothing to read.
Re: how to put d drive on my computer
I am puzzled by how we can have such different experiences with the same OS. My Windows 10 DOES show my optical drive in This PC when there is no disc in it. Mine is drive G. I wonder if it has to do with how we choose to display our Windows Explorer in this screen.

Re: how to put d drive on my computer
My laptop doesn't have a D drive, but as soon as I plug in my external optical drive Windows 10 sees it...whether or not there's a disc inside.
