Where is my mail?
Where is my mail?
I use yahoo mail as my server and my computer is windows 7. Yesterday all my inbox mail was gone! And my folders were gone. My hubby has yahoo mail and his is in his computer on his windows 10. Anyway, I was hoping after I shut it down last night and opened up my mail this morning that they would miraculously be back, but, alas, they aren't. Do you know how I can get my mail back? I had some pictures in there too, so, it is important to find my mail! Thanks.
Re: Where is my mail?
Over the years I have found Yahoo mail to be the worst of the worst. I'm also concerned that you are using Windows 7 on the internet. It is no longer supported and is full of security issues. What browser are you using to get to your Yahoo mail? If you are still using IE, I would suspect that is the problem. IE is so insecure most websites are phasing out support of it too. Try getting into your mail with another browser such as Firefox. And UPGRADE that computer ASAP!

Re: Where is my mail?
No, I use firefox. this is so unusual to lose all my mail. it keeps saying my inbox is empty and I had like 150 emails that I was saving. is there any way to get them back?
Re: Where is my mail?
I did a search in Edge for "my yahoo mail is gone" and found so many hits, I'm not sure which one to link you to! I would do that search and see if you can find something that will help. But be really careful out there on the internet - especially doing searches. That's when "drive-by" malware gets downloaded to an insecure system.

Re: Where is my mail?
Apparently there is a way to restore lost emails through Yahoo "help." Click the little question mark (?) near the settings button. If you click "mail restore" the Yahoo help folks can recover lost emails.
Re: Where is my mail?
I also found something about someone having another att.net account.

Re: Where is my mail?
I did the question mark on yahoo mail and they sent me a robot message, but, nothing else. this is so crazy that all my emails are gone and my folders with my important stuff. I guess that will teach me that I need to have at least 2 email servers and put everything on a backup server. I am kind of miffed at this.
Re: Where is my mail?
What robot message did you get, MB? Did you fill out the form asking them to assist?
Re: Where is my mail?
What I would STRONGLY suggest is that you get another email account with a much more safe option like Gmail or Outlook.com. In the meantime, this appears to not be uncommon with Yahoo mail from what I found.
Did you do a search to see if you could find anything? Like I said, I found SO MANY hits, I had no idea which one to link you to!

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Yahoo.
If your request refers to restoring lost or missing mails within the past 7 days, please allow a period of 8 hours for the process to be finalized. If your request relates to another issue please visit our help pages.
We will do everything we can to try to recover your lost emails. However, remember that only e-mails that have been deleted or have disappeared within the last 7 days may eventually be recovered and that restorations may not always succeed.
As the owner of the email account in question, you know your emails better than anyone else. If your messages do not appear in your inbox after 8 hours, they may not have been retrieved, or they may have been archived or mistakenly sent to your recycle bin. Please check all your folders and check whether your account has filters enabled, which may prevent those emails from reaching your inbox.
Warm regards,
Yahoo Customer Care Mail Restore Team

Re: Where is my mail?
also, my hubby just said that I should do a system restore from a week ago. should I?
Re: Where is my mail?
If the emails were on yahoo online, I would think a system restore would have no effect.
Based on the email you got from yahoo, if they are able to restore your emails into your account...then that will resolve it. Patience is required.
I use Outlook on my laptop so my emails are all downloaded from my email server to my laptop. Once they are on my laptop...I decide what I want to do with them. I even backup my .pst file from time to time just in case of a mishap.
If you don't have the option of a program on your pc, then I would agree with Drac. Gmail or Outlook are better options.

Re: Where is my mail?
What JKEerie said... you Yahoo mail is an on-line service and a system restore will have zero effect on that.
I do the same thing as JK. I use what is called an email "client." That means I have software on my computer which receives my email from my ISP. Once they are on my computer, I decide what to do with them. I also have on-line backup which saves everything every day several times a day. So if I ever need to restore I can. But you can't do that with an on-line email service. I also have several on-line email accounts with Gmail and Outlook.com.

Re: Where is my mail?
crap. I guess I am screwed then. I have used yahoo mail for 20 years and never had this problem. And, I doubt I will get any help from yahoo.
Re: Where is my mail?
