gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had problems launching gk 3 from the gog games site, it seems to be a graphic problem.
Does anyone knows a easy way to launch it ( not to technical) i really would love to play this game again

Explain precisely what your issue is.
Since you say "graphic problem", if it's the image flickering, black boxes appearing, and the mouse cursor duplicating, then there is a simple fix for that.
Right click in the game to bring up the menu, select the setting icon, then advanced settings, graphic settings, advanced graphic options and uncheck the "incremental rendering" check box. That should clear up most serious graphic issues.

Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8

Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
I remember having to set the graphics to software rather than hardware to get it to work

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
this is the first alert, the second one is that the game can only run on 16 bit mode, which i dont know how to do that and if it damages maby stuff on my laptop
Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
I had both of those messages when I tried to play a Puzzle 3D game on my Windows 10 laptop. I was able to get the game to launch by changing compatibility, but it still gave me issues so I played it on my old XP laptop. Here's a link to getting old software/games to run on newer systems. It explains compatibility mode very well.

I know it specifies Windows 10, but the mechanisms would be the same for Windows 8 I would presume.
Also there is another thread a bit higher in this forum where someone had issues with GK3 on a newer system and got it to run.

Sorry I haven't seen this, but my internet is down AGAIN! Four rapid-fire lightning strikes near the house about 4:15 Sunday morning... lucky I have anything! I am down at the rescue Ranch to use their network.
Since this game is 16-bit, GOG should have packaged it in one of the emulators. I can't look it up right now, but does GOG list the game as being able to run on Windows 10? I would also suggest trying to run in XP compatibility mode. You will need to go into the game file, fine the .exe file, right click and select Troubleshoot.
You should also send a ticket in to GOG... sometimes they can get them up and running for you, although the response might be too quick.

Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
I used to have graphic problems playing some games on a laptop. I am hoping that is not what the problem is related to.
Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again...
Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
The game is not 16-bit. It is a Windows 95/98 game from 1999 that requires 16-bit SVGA graphics, not a 16-bit operating system.
No. They list Windows XP/Vista/7
Not 8 and not 10.
Going by what has been posted in the GOG forums, GOG configures the game to use a dgvoodoo virtual video card to replace modern video cards that aren't compatible with the game. If you have the wrong version of dgvoodoo installed, or if the game is set to use the computer's real video card instead of the virtual video card created by dgvoodoo, you can have problems with the game displaying correctly if at all.
However, if the OP thinks changing compatibility mode is too difficult, there's no way she will be able to make any of the other changes suggested in the GOG forum
https://www.gog.com/forum/gabriel_knigh ... 1594012533
The OP should either find a friend or family member who is able to make the changes suggested in the GOG forum, or take the computer to a computer repair shop and pay them to make the necessary changes so the game runs.
Alternatively, look for an old computer that runs XP, Vista, or 7.
Old as in 7 years old or older, and which originally had XP, Vista, or 7 installed.

Thanks, middletoe! Since i am still without internet, I have very limited access to any information. I was actually going to reach out to you to see if you could help and was happy to see you had already posted. The network I'm using for a few minutes is really, slow.

Re: gabriel knight 3 on windows 8
I don't mean to sound dismissive about finding someone else to do the configuring, but the following two links in the GOG forum show the sort of configuration changes that might help, and I don't consider them anything close to "easy" myself. They are certainly more complicated than changing compatibility mode settings or telling the game to use software mode.
