Shutdown button
Shutdown button
Any ideas why my shutdown button is not working? When I use it to shutdown my computer, it restarts it.
Re: Shutdown button
It may be the way it is set in the power settings, Stella. What version of Windows are you running?
Re: Shutdown button
I'm not familiar with Windows 10 Stella but from a quick Google search it may have something to do with the Fast Startup being enabled.

I would also check your power settings in the Settings menu.

Re: Shutdown button
Ok, thank you. I'll give this a try.
Re: Shutdown button
However!!! You should NEVER be using your power button to shut down your computer. This is called a hard shut down and you could lose date if you do it. Always us the Power options in the Start Menu. Click on Start button and then select Power and then Shut Down.
I have had to disable Fast Startup on Windows 10 on a couple of computers because they never completely shut down. But do not use your power button to shut down your computer unless your computer is completely locked up and you have no other options.

Re: Shutdown button
oops, sorry. I am using the start button to shut down and restart. I guess I wasn't clear on that. I know not to shut off the computer with the off button.
Just getting flustered because somehow I seem to have gotten on global technology's radar. It's a scam company selling cc cleaner and a couple of other programs for $350.00. They call here every day, 3 or 4 times, and my virus protector warns me of a potential hacker. Geez.. I've been fighting with mice, spiders, mud, and any number of little critters on these cold winter days. And now this!

Well, that doesn't sound like fun! If you have Mawlwarebytes, run a scan with that. if you don't have it, download the free version and decline the pro trial. Although I do heartily recommend Malwarebytes Pro if you want to pay for it.
As far as the phone calls, you can't do much about them except to not answer and report the number to your state attorney general if they have a no call list reporting program.
Looks like they make you do the free trial with the new version now. And make sure you disable the fast start... that has helped a couple of computers I've worked on.

Re: Shutdown button
Stella, can you block the phone number they're calling from? I do this on both my land line and my cell phone.
Re: Shutdown button
Good idea Diat! My old phones were at least 20 years old, so I splurged on some new ones that have lots of new features including call block. So far I have 8 different phone numbers they use to call me daily. I've reported them, but it looks like lots of other people have reported them also, and they are still active. I wonder if cc cleaner is aware of them using their product like that?
Re: Shutdown button
Maybe you should check on the piriform.com website and see if they have a "contact us" option.
