Now appreciate that my house is very very "hairy" - they may only be little but the babies sure do shed a lot of hairs every day - so should I place the case on my desk?

As long as there's room for it on the desk and no danger of knocking it over, I don't see any reason not to put it on the desk.

I have mine on the floor next to the desk because I need the real estate on my desk. I have a "hairy" house too with two cats. I just open my case and blow it out every few months.

Yes, there is plenty of room on the desk - I think that it will be less effected by dog hairs if it is off the ground.

Unfortunately I went to have my hair cut and dyed today at my friend's house this morning and because of the excessive heat and stuffiness there, I came back with a thumping headache which turned into one of my (thankfully now quite rare) ice pick headaches, so I am leaving the computer hook-up until tomorrow.

How awful... Hooking up is a task definitely left to another day. Hope it goes away quickly.

Whoohoo - the speakers just arrived - they had got separated from the desktop package. Crikey, what is this huge "box" that came with the speakers? Maybe now I dont have room for the casing on my desk LOL because of all this Logitech equipment!

That will probably be the bass booster or whatever they call it. That should be placed on the floor for the best sound. It is non-directional, so it won't matter where, just so long as the speaker wires can reach it.

Nah, I just didn't understand that the cable ends you sent pictures of were of only one cable! I thought they were the ends of two different cables as it's very unusual for them to include an HDMI to DVI converter cable. Normally - at least here in the US - you get a cable with the same ends on it, not a converter. And as you well know, being confused is often not a long trip for me... but we got it sorted!

The clue was in the photos names, i.e. Cable1 and Cable2 and even now I am still a little confused....time for bed I think

I'm sure that contributed to the fact that I thought I was looking at multiple cables!
