Shivers I - stuck at the end

Post by Melia »

Hi. I've been replaying Shivers I and have made it to the end...almost. I've located (as far as I know) all the skulls and set them to the colors that were indicated in the brochure. But the last skulls in the puzzle room won't let me click on it. This is beyond frustrating. Can you help with this old game?
Thanks.

Oh. man, Melia! I feel your pain. I had the same problem when I recently replayed Shivers I. I had to backtrack and found a skull that wasn't set correctly. I used a walkthrough to help me figure it out. By that point I could navigate fairly quickly through all the scenes to get to places.

If I reset all the skulls (and I dread going back into that maze) using the same color codes I found on all the skulls (blue, blue, red, yellow, green, red), that'll do it? Do they have to be done in a certain order or can I just do them as I find them? (I'm using my granddaughter for that dratted maze. She's quicker with it than I am.)

I looked at the walkthrough again and went back to check on all the dials. The skull dial next to the two-headed Celtic god is supposed to be set to red but when I turn them and press the middle button after each turn using the colors I listed above, the dial remains blue. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Am I supposed to turn all the dials to blue, blue, etc., pressing the middle button after each color I want comes up? Have I been doing it wrong? ll the other colors seem to be what they're supposed to be except this one.

I had an awful time trying to figure that out too. I even looked on line for answers about the stupid dials. I wish I could remember, but I think what confused me was whether they were all actually turned to the right color or not. I avoided the maze by using the little cubby hole in the main room!

I think this is the website that finally helped me figure the skull dials out.

What cubby hole?? And I can't set the darn skulls to red in the two-headed thing and the vampire place. I don't know what to do. Am I supposed to get the skulls in the same order as the brochure?

Screenshots of the secret passage in the main room and where you come out. It's the red panel between the columns. Did that link to the skulls gameplay help at all? I think that's what finally got me through them. I don't think there is any order.

I saw the cubby hole but can't open it. The link said what all the other walkthroughs say, "set the dial to..." Ok. How? If I turn the skull to just red and click the middle button it doesn't change the color of the button to red.

You just click on the red panel to open it. Maybe you have to come up the secret passage first? I can't remember. I do know that some eyes jumped out at me and scared me to death the first time I played it! I think that was also my problem... I thought the middle button had to be the color of the skulls. But the skulls themselves have to be the right color. That drove me nuts too. "Set the skulls..." What the heck does that mean!

The skulls? They don't change and keep the color. How??? And I clicked the red panel many times without success.

Thanks! I just finished the game. It turns out that the red cubby won't open unless you open it first from the subterranean side. Then it's easy. And I also found a walkthrough that gave directions on how to travel the maze easily. That sure helped. The "setting" of the dials turned out to be easy once I got the hang of it. Set the skull to the desired color and then press the middle button. Duh!
Whew! Glad that's done. The "booga booga room"....your name for the subterranean maze when I first did the game many years ago didn't scare me like it did the first time. :)

That's pretty funny! I do remember the booga booga room now!

I figured that might be the case - that you had to use the secret passage from the other side first. Did you get the eyes to jump out at you!

Congratulations on finishing one of my favorite games. I was so thrilled when GOG offered the version that runs on new computers with ScumVM.

GOG is the reason I was able to play it again. And, yes, the eyes jumped out at me.
