Darcy Coates
So, I've recently found myself drawn to an Australian author named Darcy Coates. She writes mostly haunted house novels and most of her main characters are female with a few exceptions. Her novels are generally not super long most requiring just a few hours to read.
Over the course of the last year I've read 6 or 7 of them at least. Among my favorites are The Haunting of Ashburn House, Craven Manor, The Haunting of Gillespie House, and The House Next Door. I am currently reading The Haunting of Blackwood House.

I know I've read at least a couple of these and I subscribe to her newsletter.

She's got a twitter now. Has some paperbacks on the shelves of Barnes and Noble these days. Apparently currently getting kicks out of naming the chapters.

I'll have to try some of hers out.

I've just finished the fourth in The Dark Winter series by Darcy Coates. The series is a departure from her haunted house themes and is an an apocalyptic horror set in a world full of "hollows" which are not your typical zombies! I already pre-ordered the next book in the series which won't be released until October so I have a long time to wait to find out what happens next!

That series sounds good, but I'm not really one for multi-book arcs. I don't read a lot and when I do I want fairly short, self-contained stories that I can consume in just a few hours. That's why I am such a fan of her haunted house novels.

Since I retired 11 years ago, my #1 joy in life is to stay up and read as late as I want every night! After hubby goes to bed at 10:00, the living room is MINE! Well, except for a couple of cats and, in the winter, the Bloodhound. I sometimes inhale a couple of books a week and love these series.

I would have plenty of time to read if I stopped playing games.
Re: Darcy Coates
DracheHexe - Can you recommend just one that I can start with? Of course you know how I like Manors and Ghosts.

Oh, my. It's hard to choose.
So, if you want one that has a minimal cast of characters then I'd say "The Haunting of Gillespie House" It is probably my favorite when it comes to emotional investment.
If you want a story that focused more on a group then "The Carrow Haunt" is a good one.
If you like children protagonists more "The Folcroft Ghosts" is where that's at.
My two favorites (so far) are Craven Manor and Ashburn House as they go beyond just a typical haunted house story and I liked their ghosts/villains/whatever the best.

Was Craven Manor made into a movie? I recognize that as a movie name.
Ok, I have some good choices here.

I do not believe so. I don't believe any of her books have been made into other media.
There is another book called "The Mystery of Craven Manor" from a different author and a horror video game called "Kraven Manor" but no show that I am aware of.
This is weird, I never thought I'd ever be discussing books on a site mostly dedicated to games. All while having a song about puffins stuck in my head no less.
