I love this type of historical book - so much research must have gone into it - describing how Stonehenge may have come come about.

The writing reminded me very much of Jean Auel's books Earth's Children series

I loved that series up until the last couple of books. The final one was so painful to try to slog through, I nearly didn't finish it. I kept going back and forcing my way through it and finally did. Hubby also loved the series, but just couldn't make himself read the last book all the way through.

I don't know if she still writes any more... certainly haven't seen anything from her. I always pronounce it sort of like "owl," but I have no idea if that's correct!

There is a Clan of the Cave Bear TV show coming this year so maybe that will get her writing again.

Just looked her up on Wikipedia and she's 79 now, probably enjoying her retirement. Like the rest, I couldn't be bothered trying to slog through the last book, but loved the first two and liked the others.
I read the reviews on Stonehenge on Amazon and it seems to be agreed that it's not his best work, but very slow and plodding. Not exactly an impetus to buy it. I'll see if I can't borrow it from the Library.

Have you read any of Edward Rutherfurd's novels? Sarum is his first and covers the development of Stonehenge and Salisbury.

Yes, I've read most of his. Sarum was his first but my favourite is Russka, which starts in prehistoric Russia and follows several families up to the present time. It was the best description of Russia I've ever read, painless history lesson.
