I've just discovered this author who writes the "Agatha Raisin" series of detective stories. Probably loosely based on Miss Marple or Jessica Fletcher, she's a retired 50ish publicity agent who moves from London to a tiny Cotswold village complete with thatched roofs and beautiful gardens and, of course, murder. I find them very well written and occasionally they make me chuckle out loud.
Apparently the first book was out in 1992 and there are about 15 of them so I've got a lot of catching up to do.

That sounds like a fun series, Diat. I'll see if I can find them here.

I have the whole series here - not very long books - but some easy reading - the same author who wrote the Hamish McBeth series.

I watched the movie on BBC - really good. I have not read the books but thought the production was super. Just was disappointed to realise it was not the start of a series but a one-off. Hopefully a series won't be too far off.
Re: M.C. Beaton
I didn't see the TV version (and haven't read the books), but there's a series of radio adaptations starring the wonderful Penelope Keith:
