Ken Follett

Post by Rosaboobie »

Suddenly I am into historical novels -I have always loved them but now they are the only books I read. Recently I watched a tv mini series - called World Without End - and when I saw the book at our local recycling shop, I just had to have it. What a fabulous read this is - I think he is a British author so you may not have heard of him.

I also managed to buy the sequel at the same time - The Pillars of the Earth - which was also a brilliant read.

We've read and loved both those books. I think he's better when he's writing historical novels, rather than contemporary. If you like historical books, you might like to look at C.J. Sansom and his Shadrake books, about a lawyer in the time of Henry VIII.

His first novel, Storm Island, was very suspenseful, and was made into the movie Eye of the Needle starring Donald Sutherland and Kate Nelligan.

Oh right, I didn't know that LK.

I have just read a whole series of books by Bernard Knight set in the 12th century called Crowner John Mysteries - all about the first Crowner, aka Coroner, in England - absolutely brilliant reads.

I'm going to have a look for the Crowner series. Thanks, always looking for more recommendations, usually for Brian. Me, I'm reading Terry Pratchett's Equal Rites and Steam just now and waiting for a bunch of Leslie Thomas books I've ordered.

I got a brilliant offer in this series - a boxed set of 12 books for £12 from an online book club. Also our recycling centre is like a library - hundreds and hundreds of really good books in there, all for 25p each
