Halloween Approaches!

Post by draclvr »

Every year I like to replay by Dracula Resurrection and Dracula The Last Sanctuary games leading up to Halloween. I just never tire of them! But I just recently did a replay to help out someone at Gameboomers, so I was looking for a new scary game.

FOUND IT! The newest release from Frictional Games is perfect. Amnesia Rebirth is just the right combination of scary with a great story. Really enjoying it so far.

So, does anyone else like to play a good scary game before Halloween?

I have a half-finished game of Dracula 3 on my computer, which I hope to finish. :evil5:

I keep going back and forth trying to choose. I think I've decided on Gast. It's a wonderful spooky 🦇 game.
Hopefully I can finish up this evil Nancy Drew game this weekend.

This is a playthrough so just watch a few minutes:

Heh. I got so involved with the playthrough video that I watched the whole thing. I've been familiar with the game only through the screenshots here, so it was nice to see how it played. It's definitely a good one for Halloween. The online player obviously knew the best route to accomplish everything as efficiently as possible, but I'd be to-ing and fro-ing for hours just trying to figure out who needed what and when. The limited inventory is a bit of a bummer, but the player seemed to remember where s/he stashed things for later use. I noticed that Gast had to drink periodically. I assume he was losing energy when things hit him, but I didn't notice how they were measuring that. Was he losing a star each time?

Anyway, thanks for the video link, and enjoy your own playthrough.

How funny, Lady K. Gast does lose stars but it has been too long and I don't remember how. I'll need to read the manual before I start. I do know you have to have so many stars to ride the roller coaster at the end. (hint: save in the attic with all the stars you need). Its been a few years since I've played it but it is memorable. Its also one of my granddaughter's favorite games.

Another good ghostly game is Goetia. I really need to do a replay on that one, since it's been a few years. Which means I won't remember much from the first time! It has a good ghostly manor to appeal to you, Ghostlady!

I've looked at this numerous times but I've read the puzzles are really difficult. Do you remember anything about the puzzles?

Yes, some were difficult, but most were not. I do remember using a walkthrough a lot because I could never remember where I was if I didn't play for a few days!

OMG! I forgot I bought Goetia from GOG last year. I think it's going to be next on my list.

Actually if I wanted to play a Halloween game I'd probably choose one from Big Fish.
Maybe one of the MCF games like #15 The Black Veil.
I thought that one was pretty spooky.

Another possibility would be a Jon Boakes game, since those are always good (IMO).
I played the original Lost Crown on disc, but not the improved download version.

I played Gast many years ago.
I remember I liked it a lot, though I don't remember much else about it.
I did think it was "cute" rather than scary.

I bought and started Goetia a few months ago, but did not stick with it.
Part of the problem was getting lost and not knowing where to go next in the house,
but there was something else that I just don't remember.
I hope those of you who are playing it enjoy it though.

Isn't it fun to watch a walkthrough without playing a game you know will freak you out too much? I just cannot take being chased by whatever terror and I completely loose it but love games which are quiet and spooky but without the chase. So I have, several times, taken to live the game in episodes on YouTube by wonderful uploaders and so enjoy it.
I know daft but I do get to experience games I wish I had the courage to tackle!!! :)
Far better for my blood pressure and my heart! :)

Then you would NOT like the Amnesia games, Val!

I remember the same thing about Goetia as you, Jenny. I got lost a LOT in that game, hence the heavy use of a walkthrough.

Is dracula games first person? I think I tried them many years ago and couldn't figure out how to move. I have a problem with first person games.

Which Dracula games? There are a lot of them! Resurrection and TLS are point and click.

Yes, they are first person, Mbday, with cut scenes showing your character. In the first two, you play as Jonathan Harker, and in the 3rd one you're a priest.
