Who here plays on iPad?
Who here plays on iPad?
I don’t really see much talk here about any kind of mobile gaming. There is a rich selection of adventure games available in the App Store (stupid Siri’s capitalization, not mine—I can’t be arsed to try to fix it because Siri is also stubborn, not to mention arrogant enough to think App Store even deserves capitalization). Many of them are available on multiple platforms, but not all. I have played probably a couple hundred point-and-click games that fall under the adventure game umbrella, at least half of them unique to tablets, and some of them top tier quality gaming when compared to any platform. I can see not playing them on a smart phone because of the small screen, but am I alone in playing on a tablet?
Re: Who here plays on iPad?
You’re not alone Jen - by preference I now play on an iPad. Currently I’m playing “Life is Strange” which I haven’t clicked with unlike “Gardens Between” and “Day of the Tentacle” before that. Recommendations welcome!

I only game on my desktops. The whole tiny screen thing is just not good for my aging eyesight! I'm very partial to my 24" curved Samsung monitor. I'm also still playing a lot of RPGs and FPS games in the winter when I have more time.

I could make a whole list of games worthy of your attention, if I could remember anything past what I ate for breakfast. Here are some suggestions that are all straight up adventure games, no reflexes needed and no dying.
Anything by the developer Glitch Games. They are without exception really great games.
The Isoland series by Cotton Games.
The Room series and another two games called the House of DaVinci. These could be considered more puzzle-y. They’re pretty thin on story, but top notch games for fun factor.
A qualified recommendation, depends on your tolerance for weird, the Rusty Lake games. Most are free and short, so you won’t be out anything for trying.
Lumino City.
I just played one yesterday called She and the Lightbringer. It’s short and not very challenging, but it’s cute and fun and has a really sweet story.
Tengami. Also short and easy but so beautiful.
That oughta keep you going for a while, if you haven’t already played all of them.

Oh, and how could I forget Tormentum. One of my all-time faves.
Not an adventure game but I’d recommend it to anyone: Gorogoa. It’s the first truly unique game I’ve seen in a really long time.

I loved Tormentum. I believe there is a Tormentum 2 out now.

I wish! If there is, it hasn’t made it onto iPad yet.

Re: Who here plays on iPad?
Tormentum is a neat game. The art is especially impressive and creepy. I've played it through both ways to get the different endings, but played it on my iMac. I don't think the sequel has been released yet.
The only game I've played on my iPad mini is Technobabylon, but I didn't get very far. Maybe it's because my screen is small, but I just don't find it as immersive as a bigger screen. There's something about using my finger instead of a cursor that I haven't gotten used to yet.
I've heard good things about the Rusty Lake games, and Gorogoa has moved up my to-be-played list after I finish Anna's Quest and Unforseen Incidents.

Re: Who here plays on iPad?
The Rusty Lake games are weird and fun and Gorogoa is superb and stands alone as far as the concept is concerned.
To answer your question Jen, I, too, prefer desktop playing. I have a couple of simple hidden object casual games on my tablet which I play with my grandchildren when we are away together but unless there is a power failure I don't touch them otherwise.

Re: Who here plays on iPad?
I just started a game last night called The Almost Gone. I like it so far. It’s different than the usual run of games. I am going room by room through a house, discovering my story and trying to get out. I’ve figured out a couple of things, but I expect a pretty good challenge.
Re: Who here plays on iPad?
I prefer my iPad because it’s so portable. Also, the screen is so high res that I can’t even see the pixels, and I can hold it right up to my face if necessary to see better. Everything just works. No fiddling with settings and drivers and patches. The games are usually very inexpensive. I’d say I pay on average $2-$3 for a decent game, and the most I’ve ever paid for a game is around $10.
Re: Who here plays on iPad?
Thanks for those recommendations Jen! Ditto on those pluses for gaming on such a device.

You’re welcome, kickaha, and if you play anything interesting, please tell us about it.
Re: Who here plays on iPad?
Another iPad game recommendation: The Tiny Bang Story.
Re: Who here plays on iPad?
I have Tiny Bang in my Steam account. I think it might be time for a replay since it's been several years since I played it.
