What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Drac and GL, hush, that’s crazy talk
Don’t encourage those devs to keep making them.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I quite like them too. They're generally busywork but quite calming and satisfying to get done.
I generally work from the corner opposite where the blank needs to end up. So if (as is most often the case) the blank should end up in the bottom right, I'll start with the top row, then the left hand side, then the second row and the second column from the left and so on.

Noooo!!! Hate them!
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I never hated them, but I used to brute my way through them then I read somewhere that one way to approach them is to just make them smaller, so I always solve the bigger ones into the classic 3 X 3 formats. Then I work the periphery as best I can until the unsolved bit is the few squared around the open tile which always seem easier to manipulate.
The other type of sliders I can get stuck on sometimes, but rather enjoy is the one where the rows slide right and left and the columns slide up and down.
The most complex slider I've ever come across was the one in Puzz 3D Orient Express.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I just downloaded 3 games from Steam. Gordian Rooms: A curious heritage...I played the free prologue and enjoyed it so the game was on sale for $4 and change today, so I purchased it. Also purchased Meridian 157 chapters 1 and 2 for $2.99 each. I played the prologue on this one. These seem like nice short, point and click adventures.
I added Machinika Museum to my wishlist. It is reminiscent of the Room games or House of Da Vinci with mechanical puzzles. Reviews on it are good, except it's relatively short. Price isn't bad at $7.99, but I'll hold off for a bit.

I've played both Meridian 157 all chapters and Gordian Rooms--that's a great deal. You have lots of good puzzling ahead of you.JKEerie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 11:11 am I just downloaded 3 games from Steam. I have Machinika pre-ordered on the iPad app store. The review at Appunwrapper was very good.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
After finishing and enjoying the puzzles in Nancy Drew The Silent Spy and then Baron Wittard, I am craving puzzles...especially ones you can reason through with logic, vs the SWAG method. (For those unfamiliar, SWAG = Scientific Wild Ass Guess. That's how I used to put together my bloodbank budgets before I retired.)
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
If it's on your wishlist, GL, it's on sale for 59 cents this weekend at GOG.
I just played a bit of it. It's a funny and cute game. The dialogue is fun! I'm clicking on everything just so I can hear the comments by the various characters.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Running over to GOG right now!
Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again...
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I always struggled with sliders, so I disliked them. My approach was get any tile in place then mess it all up trying to get others in place! I googled and found a tip to start at the top left, then the tiles around it, and work your way to the opposite corner. I actually found it made it a bit easier for me. I still don't love them. I am a bit of an expert on Hanoi Towers thanks to Nancy though... so I am always pretty happy if there is one of those.

Hanoi Towers have never posed a challenge for me. Except there was this one in an old game called Rhea where the towers were upside down and not visible. . . .
I just preordered Machinika Museum. At first I thought you were talking about Mechanika, which I already played a while ago (good game, BTW), and I was wondering why you were preordering an already-out game

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
There's a nice Hanoi Tower in Baron Wittard. If they are big ones, I always get mixed up in the middle of them and make them longer than they probably should be.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I have finished ROTS today. As with most long games, after investing over 20 hours, I miss that experience. I'm still playing Keepsake , but being a community play, we're doing some each week. So, looking for my next big adventure, I started Call of the Sea.
It is a Steam game for me, and a WASD control. I have a programable mouse (Razer with 6 buttons) so I use that to make gameplay easier. My set up doesn't lend itself to accessing the keyboard, and having room for my notes. So far so good, the game plays smoothly and I'm intrigued about the story. Looks like lots to do and explore on the island.

Let me know how that one goes. I am quite interested and have it on my wishlist.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I had it on my wishlist but just removed it. Apparently there are a number of individuals having issues with the controls, disappearing hotspots and even starting the game. So I am taking a wait and see approach.
