What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I've read several people saying they are using their cell phones to take pictures instead of using a notebook. Clever!

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I used the camera on Nancy's cell phone for important clues. Also used a print screen function on my laptop so I could cut and paste sections of a code to manipulate them to determine the character sequence. The last puzzle is timed (bomb) so I windowed the game. That way I could click outside the game to pause it and determine my moves that way. I'm getting smarter in my old age.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I just loaded up two games on my Windows 10...Baron Wittard and Ceville...two drastically different games. I initially could not launch Baron Wittard as my Webroot antivirus prevented the installation of the DXS studio player. Fortunately, I caught the message and even allowing the file in the Webroot quarantine, did not help. I uninstalled the game. Shutdown my antivirus and reinstalled it. This time, no error or Webroot messages. Windows 10 applied Windows 7 compatibility and the game launches fine. Desktop returns to normal when you exit the game.
Ceville, I recall playing a demo of years ago on my HP XP laptop. It installed fine and launched. Windows 10 applied Vista compatibility but I switched it to XP and the game plays a bit more smoothly and exits more smoothly.
Neither game requires the disc in the optical drive. So...if I get stuck in the dark Baron Wittard, which I understand has some really hard puzzles, I'll lighten up with Ceville.

I have Ceville in my GOG list waiting for me.
Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley again...
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I remember laughing outloud playing the demo.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I have started Baron Wittard and am half way through. It's dark...but it's basically a search and puzzle game to get to the end. I'm loving the puzzles. They are not easy...although one I figured the solution to without seeing what I was supposed to do. (I had an idea and just did the initial math myself before finding the clue.) I haven't needed the walkthrough for the puzzles thus far, but have referred it just for general navigation and to insure I don't miss any symbols you have to count as you meander through rooms and hallways. I need to pace myself. I am so anxious to move to the next puzzle, I play for long stretches at a time...including last night until 1:30 am.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I finished Baron Wittard. I made it through all the puzzles...including a slider which I hate. I didn't like that there was no in game note system, so you had to take copious notes and/or screenshots. If you like puzzles, this is a game you will enjoy.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I have achieved mastery of those accursed slider puzzles just because they are so prevalent in games. I don’t know anybody who enjoys them, which begs the question, why do devs keep putting them in games?
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
What made this slider more devious was a complicated design with the upper left corner as the missing tile. I like to work from the top down, left to right. So I had to work this one backwards from how I usually work them. It's always the bottom row...usually the order of two or three tiles that are the hardest to place.
Baron Wittard is noted for puzzles that aren't the easiest though most of them are familiar. The worst puzzle was a color fuse puzzle with a vague hint that quite honestly I still don't understand. I peaked at a walkthrough for part of the solution and guessed at the rest. Neither walkthrough explained the logic.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I always work them from the outside in, so I’m not sure the hole position would make much difference to me. What always gives me trouble is when I get close to the end and have to switch two of the inner tiles. The worst ones for me have some random design and give no idea what the end result is supposed to look like.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
It always comes down to switching two tiles doesn't it?!
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I kinda/sorta like them. *as she slinks away into the night!*

I've always liked them too. Except the ones that are really big with lots of tiles.
