What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I loved that game LadyK. Really, really clever game.
I finished all 3 chapters of Tiny and Gleipnir. Didn't disappoint and had a great time playing it.
Replaying The Whispered World at the moment and it still brings enchantment.
I see there is a lot of hype online about "There is No Game - Wrong Dimension". Has anyone here played it yet and is so how was it?

They had a community playthrough of it over at AG, and everyone seemed to have good things to say about it, especially the laugh-out-loud humor. It also won a bunch of Aggie awards over there. I wanted to play it, but the specs are too high for my current iMac.

Oh! I didn't know more chapters of Tiny and Tall Gleipnir were out! I loved the first one and will definitely get the other two.

I liked Gorogoa too, Lady K. It's not my usual kind of game, but I felt quite smart each time I finally figured a screen out. It kind of reminded me of the puzzle locks on one of the Mystery Case Files games.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I just finished Amerzone. It's an easy game to get lost in...I mean navigation wise when you get into the later chapters, especially. I did have trouble in Chapter 5 with this "grapnel" which is in essence a grappling hook that you had to fire ahead of you to pull your ship along when it lost power. In two spots, I could not discern where exactly I was to aim the thing. I finally had to consult a video walkthrough. The first one I found, the player was French. Apparently, "What the F....!" is the same in many languages. It made me laugh out loud, but also gave me comfort as he couldn't find the targets either. I found another that was a bit more definitive...the player was English...and he even pointed out how vague the graphics were in this area. I managed, however, to move forward. The ending of the game was largely disappointing. I also wondered how the principle character would ever manage to find his way back to civilization since all his travel vehicles were destroyed and he was isolated.
So now I'll finish my final case in CSI 6: Fatal Conspiracy. I also started the Room 3. I really love the puzzles in these games. I played a demo of a game on Steam, "Gordion Rooms, A Curious Heritage." It reminds me of the Room games. Apparently the game isn't very long, but it is also not expensive. I put it on my wish list there for now.

That's SO funny about the French guy! I really need to check out these Room games.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I played Amerzone a few years ago, JK, and did enjoy it, especially the animals. The water giraffes were my favorites, although it took me a while to figure out how to call them. I agree that the ending needed something more, and I was a bit puzzled as to why the crazy dictator was included. (Perhaps to show corruption of the region because the egg was stolen?)
Right now I'm playing the Pahelika games, which are adventure-light (a bit more adventure than casual). I finished Pahelika: Secret Legends last night and started Pahelika: Revelations, which is a continuation of the first game. They're both very linear and in the beginning I was reminded of escape the room games. Later, I was able to move between one or two areas. There are inventory, jigsaw, memory, and code puzzles to solve, and they have a story concerning magical events that carries them along.

I actually was lucky in that last chapter of Amerzone, Lady K...lucking out and just hitting on the right directions and the right actions. That journalist was bad luck for the original group of explorers. They all died after talking to him. The giraffes were my favorite animals, too.
I played the Pahelika games years ago when they were introduced on Big Fish. They were quite enjoyable.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Amerzone was a game I played very early on when I discovered adventure games. I don't remember much of it but I do remember the grappling hook and the animals. Its one of those games I would love to replay again.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
I downloaded some freebies from Steam. Summerland is different. I played the first "trial" but won't continue as the WASD 360 degree movement made me a bit nauseous. Another freebie was the prologue to a game Meridian 157. It's like a cross between a casual game and adventure game. There are two more chapters that you have to purchase...though they are pretty inexpensive. Finally today I played the prologue to Syberia The World Before. It's well done and the full game will be on my wish list when it's released.
Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
JKEerie, do you think it's necessary to play the other games first? I started Syberia years ago and never finished it, and can't see me replaying any time soon. But this new game looks good, and I might try it.

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing
Hi Skeeter. Syberia 1 and 2 introduce you to Kate Walker, the main character, and the world of automotons. In the prologue to Syberia 4 you view two worlds...the one that exists prior to episodes 1 and 2 and the future where Kate Walker's life is drastically changed with her imprisoned in a salt mine prison camp. You realize in the prologue that Kate is somehow connected to both worlds. So, no, I don't think you need to play either 1 or 2 to play Syberia 4.
