It’s been a long time!

Thank you to all the lovely people who said they missed me.

I’m having a bit of a rough time just now. I lost my beloved Maloo in October quite suddenly, and straight away Benji also became very unwell, losing his 15 year old sister brought on acute dementia, and he and I have struggled on together since then.

Two weeks ago, he stopped eating for many days, so it was decided to do a dental cleaning so as to rule out that could be the problem. Unfortunately his bloods showed up that he had Stage 3 renal failure. He was on a drip for 48 hours and was allowed home a week ago.

Rosaboobie is in the house! It is SO nice to see you here... we have indeed missed you. I missed my "birthday rememberer" as I'm not very good at it! Forgot to ask if you'd talked to the vet about Benji's high protein diet?

Benji is hardly eating anything at all, he will only take a small amount of chopped up chicken breast mixed in with a tiny bit of liver, and will only eat out the palm of my hand. I have ordered tinned renal food for him but I’m sure he won’t eat it. I have offered him every conceivable food but nothing else tempts him. He is losing weight rapidly.

He’s a beautiful dog. I’m sorry to hear he’s not doing well. Those aren’t the same dogs you had in Africa, are they? If so, it’s pretty remarkable the life they’ve had. It is nice to see you again. I don’t know if you remember me. I was out of the picture even longer than you.

I’m afraid he won’t get better, Val, I just pray he goes quickly and peacefully in his sleep.

Yes, Jen, they are indeed the dogs who were born in Kenya, and who moved to Scotland with me. Maloo was almost 15, and Benji has just turned 14.

So happy to see you, Rosaboobie! I'm very sorry to hear about your dogs... my little Delilah also had renal failure almost two years ago. I had some success feeding her cat food... it was some steak type meat that came in the fridge. It was one of the few things she would eat. But it wasn't enough to keep the weight on I'm afraid.
