I am so sorry, LadyK. yes, a lot of us have gone through this before, and that is how we all know how terrible you feel. there just is that presence lacking in the house. After my last one died, I keep looking at her food bowl to see if she needed more food or water and it always took a few seconds to realize that she was gone. Are you going to get a new dog? Hubby said that we can never get any more animals as it is too hard to lose them.

I don’t agree with that sentiment. As painful as it is to lose a beloved pet, that pain is vastly overshadowed by the love and companionship given and received over the course of many years. I love my old kitty like nobody’s business and will be devastated when she dies, but I can’t imagine not having another cat after that.

Everyone is different. I know after our last dog passed, we both said, no more dogs. Like all our other dogs, Charlie was dumped out here. She was a pittie cross and the sweetest dog I ever met. In addition to the grief at losing her, we also took into consideration that we are old! How many more years will we be able to stay here on our 10 acres! We were thinking about getting a senior dog, but guess what got dumped out here and adopted us? A one year-old 100 pound Bloodhound the size of a small pony! Sheesh!

LOL Drac. That is the thing for us too - we are getting old. My son was over here the other day and we had to take in one of his dogs already (my little Norman) and he another dog that he gave to a friend of mine - so, he gives up dogs quite easily. when he was here he said something about that we might have to take his last dog that he took in - a blue healer type of dog. Hubby said no, but, if he brought him over and couldn't keep him, I am sure hubby would cave. He is an animal lover.

A blue heeler type?! Be prepared for a level of energy you've never seen. These are stock dogs and they need a "job" and tons of exercise or they
can be impossible!

I was surprised and touched to get the nicest handwritten condolence note from my vet today. He said he knew I missed Zork but that he hoped I would be comforted knowing that I gave him a great life.

We still have our Radar, who is a chihuahua/rat terrier mix (a chihuahua with an off switch :) ). We got her as a companion for Zork (a chocolate lab mixed with a breed with longer legs and snout). Zork had gotten a bit lazy and zaftig by the time she came along, but she had him running and playing and getting fit in no time. They got along from the beginning, but he always catered to her, even when it came to food. The only time he would growl at her was when she would try to pull her sneaky bagel caper. She always preferred his rawhide bagel to hers, so she would sit and stare at him while he was chewing. After about 10 minutes, she would jump up and bark loudly, causing him drop the bagel which she would then grab and start chewing. He would then have to go hunt for her bagel that she usually stashed in a corner somewhere.
I’m more confused than a chameleon in a bagful of Skittles.

That is so funny. :bgb I love how the critters in our lives show us what individuals they are!
