covid
Re: covid
I hope everyone affected recovers quickly...

Re: covid
So, just curious to hear how everyone spent their Thanksgiving here in the US with COVID on the rise so drastically. It was just me, hubby, 13 pounds of turkey and 2 bottles of wine! We are planning on zero contact with anyone for Christmas this year too.
We are miserable not being able to see our grandkids and family. But giving up a couple of family gatherings to help ensure we will be here to celebrate them next year is a small price to pay! I say, we have TWO Thanksgivings next year - maybe one with a deep fried turkey in the summer!
Stepson recovered and is back at work. He said it was pretty awful and it felt like he was trying to breathe underwater for many days. When he was in the hospital for 4 days, he felt so bad for the nurses. He could tell they were exhausted and at their limits. One tried 4 times to get an IV in him and was about to cry, but he told her to just try again. That time she got it. He said she had dark circles under her eyes and was obviously stressed and tired. He also said when he was being released, he was escorted out with a guard. When they were going to get in the freight elevator - so they could keep 6' apart - an unmasked doctor tried to get on with them. The guard told him no twice, but the doctor continued to try to get on. He said the guard throat checked him against the opposite wall and told him, "This guy is COVID positive. I told you TWICE to stay off the elevator." Pat said the doctor's eyes just got real big and he walked away.

Re: covid
We stayed home for Thanksgiving but drove the turkey to my daughter’s house with some pumpkin pies. My daughter gave us some sides and we headed back home. I missed seeing my grandkids but we aren’t taking any chances.
For Christmas we are going virtual with Zoom and that’s where we will be opening presents.

Re: covid
A friend cooked the entire Thanksgiving dinner and made meal boxes for each family. She put them in the garage and they picked them up. Then they did a Zoom Thanksgiving dinner "together" so they could visit and enjoy each other!
I'm going to see if I can work out a Zoom occasion with both my sons!

Re: covid
Thanksgiving was pretty lame this year. Hubby smoked a turkey breast and I did a ham in the oven. store bought cheesecake. My daughter and SIL had covid, so, I made a care package of everything and hubby brought it over to them. He left it outside their gate and just called them to pick it up, so, no contact. I was hoping that this would all be over before Christmas, but, I guess it won't. so, that will be lame too. it is kind of hard not to get depressed lately.
Re: covid
Since I was making a turkey for myself and my brother is also a solo act, I invited him for Thanksgiving and he readily accepted. I made a 13 pound turkey and all the sides. Store bought chocolate pie for him and pumpkin for me. We enjoyed a nice meal together and then watched football all day and evening (I found a replay of the Bills vs Dallas last Thanksgiving on YouTube). We kept our masks on except while eating and sat better than 6 feet apart. I also had a couple windows open.
There will be no annual Christmas Eve gathering here of family, but my brother will join me again for Christmas day dinner. I've really downsized the Christmas decorations this year as well. Just a small tree and village (Thomas Kinkade) and a couple other things. No outdoor display this year. It normally takes me better than two full days to decorate. This year it took 30 minutes. It will be quick and easy to take things down as well. That's the only positive this year...but like you, Drac, we all want everyone here for years to come, so we are staying separate. Glad to hear your stepson has recovered. Unfortunately in our area, folks haven't been following the rules and we have a large uptick in cases. It has resulted in more businesses shutdown, so my nieces salons are once again closed. My one niece will be by tomorrow to do my hair here as usual. I pray for the healthcare workers daily...that they would be protected, strengthened, encouraged and find respite.
It is easy to get depressed, MB, I agree. Better days are ahead. January 20th can't come soon enough.

Re: covid
I totally agree. I will not rest easy that we can get a grip on COVID until after January 20. Even our backwards county in Missouri finally passed a mask mandate a couple of weeks ago. Our hospitals are at capacity and there is now no guarantee if you have a heart attack or are in a car accident there will be a bed or any staff to care for you. It's really that bad here. My neighbor is 26 and a COVID ICU nurse. She has full-blown PTSD and is taking Xanax just to survive. She works 12-hour shift after 12-hour shift after 12-hour shift because so many have quit or have COVID or are in quarantine. She told me she spends a lot of time just crying in the bathroom after a patient is looking into her eyes as they gasp for every breath and then die. She said in her short career she has seen a lot of death as an ICU nurse, but dying with COVID is NOT an easy death. She tried to talk about it, but couldn't. She is terrified she will get it and pass it to her baby who is just 12 months old. She said the worst thing is the COVID hoaxers and anti-maskers who make them all feel like everything they are sacrificing is all for naught. I just feel so bad for her, but she told me she will not give up and will do her best to help save every life she can.
