Postcards

Post by Ghostlady »

Over the years I've collected quite a few postcards that I store in an album, like we used to store photographs. They have writings on the back and speak of a time that is long past. The place may have changed or even gone away but the people seem to be very close to me while reading their words. I wanted to share these cards with you. I picked a lot of the older ones so you can go back in time for a little while. These postcards are a reflection of the things that I like: Architecture (Mansions and Manors, Missions and Churches, Hotels) Outdoors (Gardens, Flowers, Woods, Crashing Water and Rocks) Romance (Lover's Lanes, Moonlit Nights and Sunsets).
I plan to store these in the Manor attic when I catch up.

I hope you find some enjoyment from the past in these postcards.

That's a nice collection, GL, and appropriate for the manor's attic. I can see where you got your ideas for some of the architecture in your games. I got a big kick out of the moon postcards in your miscellaneous section, and couple of the postcards brought back some memories. The first time I ever flew in a plane was when I went out to see my boyfriend in Flint, Michigan who had just gotten an engineering job out there. Also, Dave's mother came from Worcester, Mass. and had lots of stories about living during the depression there.

Thanks for sharing those postcards GhostLady! I am a sucker for things of the past like that, a window back into the past, reminders of temps Perdu.

These are so cool. I looked at Wisconsin, and it sure looks like Wisconsin! I looked at Oregon too - with the Columbia river there, so very beautiful. We sure live in a beautiful country.

We sell a lot of postcards in our sites. Or at least we did when they were open..lol.

I would have thought that they were going the way of the Dodo with Instagram and phones keeping people in touch faster, but I think they still sell.

That’s good to hear. Some things that are old can still serve purpose and pleasure, we just can’t forget about them with all the technology we use.

When I saw Michigan in the list I had hoped it was a post card of somewhere I had been to. It being the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island I can not only say I've been there but I used to work there, well, for one summer anyway. Well, not in the hotel proper but with the horse drawn carriage staff that served the hotel.

DracheHexe - it’s one of the Grand hotels I’ve always wanted to visit. And you worked there! And the best chick movie ever was filmed there! I feel like I know someone important now!

I wasn't aware that Somewhere In Time is "the best chick movie ever". I thought that was like The Notebook or something, but since I am not a chick I'll take your word for it. Anything with the best Superman ever can't be all bad can it?

People still send them, but they also buy them as mementos for themselves. There's often a description on the back, which photos don't have. Also, when visiting art museums, it's one of the best ways to have a good picture of your favorite piece of art.
