Hamilton - on Disney

Post by mbday630 »

what a disappointment! I was hoping for something like West Side Story where there was a plot and also some singing but this was all singing. I had to look at the bottom of the screen the whole time to see what they were saying and missed what the actors were doing. I can't figure out why they consider this a good play. ?? I tried it and nothing appealed to me.

I'll be watching in a few minutes. In truth I don't expect any plot or real story as much as the ideals of our democracy expressed in music. In the wake of our current government officials, I'll be happy to hang onto those ideals.

Oh my, MB....I could not disagree with you more. I just finished watching and it was fantastic! I don't know what you mean when you say you looked at the bottom of the screen. I was surprised that despite there being no dialogue, I was able to follow the story just listening to the lyrics. It was funny in spots and poignant at the end. I'm sorry you didn't like it. Perhaps now that you have an idea of what the story is you can watch again, enjoy the performances, and just listen to the lyrics. Hopefully you'll enjoy it more.

I wanted to see Hamilton, but I don't subscribe to the Disney channel. I'm hoping that when the theaters in NYC finally open up again I may be able to get tickets.

Speaking of tickets, it's kind of ironic that my cousin was trying to get us in to see Billy Joel at MSG when everything shut down. Also, I don't think I'll be going on my theatre in London trip in January. The idea of flying that far while having to wear a mask is too daunting.

I subscribed to the Disney channel just to see it, Lady K. It's only $6.99 per month, so I subscribed for the month, not the full year. I already have a reminder to unsubscribe at the end of July since it would automatically renew Aug 1. Everything is so easy with the internet. After I downloaded the app to my Apple TV, I created a watch list of movies and shows I want to watch during the month. I have a dozen movies I've wanted to see, in addition to Hamilton on the list. So the $6.99 will be more than worth it! I also have the app on my Roku devices, so I activated it there as well. They produced a Zoom chat with the cast that you can also stream as they discuss the production. Lin Manuel said that more people will see the stream of Hamilton during July 3, 4 and 5 than have seen it in all the shows they've done to date. I think it's so fitting, considering our current times.

that is such a good idea! Just sign up for the month and watch it. but, it ends on the 7th, I believe. but, there are so many good shows on Disney plus. I love the national geographic. Many interesting shows. And when the grandkids come here, there is always something for them to watch.

I have National Geographic as part of my cable streaming package, MB. Some of my favorite shows are on it, particularly Life Below Zero. I'm fascinated at how these folks lead subsistence lifestyles in total solitude.

I love all of those National Geographic shows - I learn so much. But, getting back to the Hamilton show, hubby watched it for like 45 minutes and said "can't we put something else on" He hated it as much as I did. we learned from history in our junior high school that he was killed in a duel so, after you know what happens, why watch it? and that singing! it wouldn't quit!

Well, yeah, all that singing! Leave it to musical theater! I happened to be a lover of musicals ever since I was a little girl. As to the story, yes you knew how it would end but I actually learned things I never knew about Hamilton. His wife endured a lot of tragedy and embarrassment and had it not been for her much of his legacy would have been lost. I also just loved all the performances! I especially enjoyed Leslie Odom as Aaron Burr and Daveed Diggs as Lafeyette and Thomas Jefferson. The casting of mostly people of color was a stroke of daring and genius.

The more you talk about it, JK, the more I think I need to watch it! Especially with the horrible times we're in, I think I need a little uplifting for our democracy!
