So, we have our German family here for their annual 4 week visit. Actually, it is fast coming to a close as they will be heading back to Germany this Thursday.
Here is the story... 3 years ago a stray cat showed up at Günter and Petra’s in Schweinfurt all skinny and unhealthy. He adopted them and Clyde is now a very vocal, annoying, but loved cat. He was chipped and they found our he belonged to a family who had been stationed there as the husband was in the US Army. They had gone back to the states the summer before. Petra searched on Facebook and found a young woman with the same name as was on Clyde's chip who lives in St. Roberts, Missouri - which is only about an hour and a half from here - and her husband is in the Army. Yup, same folks. So she contacted them through FB to let them know that their kitty who had been on the loose for over a year had landed at their house. Jackie told Petra when they were leaving the year before, Clyde disappeared and they had to leave him behind. His sister – Bonnie, of course - went back to the states with them.
Fast forward to yesterday and Petra wants to go visit these people. Günter was a little uneasy about driving down there, so Dave and I drove down there with them. Turns out they had shipped over to Germany with all their pets - 5 cats and 2 big dogs. Bonnie and Clyde were their first two pets and they were heartbroken when they couldn't find Clyde before they left. She had a baby in Germany, so they came back with just 4 cats, the two dogs and a new baby. Initially, after Petra contacted them, they had thought about having him shipped back home, but decided since he is an older cat - about 13 years old - it would be too hard on him. They were so happy to meet Clyde's new owners and know he was in a good home.
They took us to Fort Leonard Wood, the US Army training base to walk around some of the old barracks and dozens of tanks, personnel carrier,s helicopters etc. It was a trip down memory land for my Dave as he did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood over 50 years ago! Of course, it had changed enormously since then. Since 9/11 happened, now you have to go through all kinds of checking to get on base. And since Günter and Petra are not US citizens, it took an extra 20 minutes.
It was quite a very interesting day!

That is such a great cat story! Whew. We just found out that the cat the my daughter has been feeding for the past year is microchipped and everything. Too bad she had to walk through her neighborhood naked to save her though!
