New iMac

Post by LadyKestrel »

I finally got an updated modem installed, and my new iMac up and running. I haven't done much with it yet, but it seems fairly user friendly. I do have to figure out how to turn off the automatic spelling flags which pop up while I'm typing, and I'm getting used to the wireless mouse that functions as a glide pad, but so far, so good. :D

YAY and DOUBLE YAY! This has been a long time coming! I'd be like a little kid at Christmas!

I was trying to set up my new email today, but without success. I've got some kind of password issue that I've got to sort out with Comcast. However, I did successfully download a Big Fish game (the newest in the Enigmatis series) that I've been wanting to play. The new computer has a ton of bells and whistles, many of which I don't plan to use, but there are some that look interesting. David Pogue's The Missing Manual has been quite helpful, but I still have a lot of stuff to wade through to find the gems. Still, I'm so happy that I finally got it up and running. I will have to get some peripherals for it, but they can wait until I know more about what I'm doing.

And my new baby came yesterday also - A Surface Pro 4 - I am just SO thrilled with it. And the keyboard came this morning - I have never seen such a slim keyboard - it is so cute!

Still getting to grips with it all - I am just downloading some things before I start to play with it

But yes it will be perfect for my trips away.

Congrats on your new machine, RB! Have fun with it.

Tomorrow I'm packing the new computer into its carrying case and taking it to our local Simply Mac store to get a few things straightened out and to ask questions about peripherals and apps. I'm also thinking about getting an iPad or iPhone for my next trip to London. With my new Wi-Fi set up, it looks fairly easy to synchronize the devices.

I bought a Google Nexus tablet back in 2012 for my trip to Jersey, and I have never regretted buying it. I even slip it into my handbag when I am going to town on the ferry.

Perfect for short trips, but your new Surface will be so much better for a long trip.

Congratulations on the new computer arrivals! I have an iPad (an iPad Pro) and the syncing works well for what I use it for. The iPad travels with me.

I've been using my wireless mouse with the new computer, and the scrolling action is the opposite from my wired one with the scroll wheel. Now I just caught myself trying to swipe the old mouse. :-?

I schlepped my computer to the Simply Mac store today and a very savvy young man named Shawn answered all of my questions and fixed my email problem. I also bought a CD/DVD player/burner. In order to increase the memory and still keep the machine slim, Apple decided to go with a separate player. It makes more sense from a servicing point of view as well.
