On the down side, these funds for buying the cottage came from a long term investment Bond, taken out in 2006 actually, but unfortunately they cant be put back into this investment. At my stage in life, I dont think it a good idea to tie these funds up long term anyway.

So I guess I might have to take the advice of my Jersey Bank Manager where he tells me SPEND SPEND SPEND

Very first on the agenda is a new car. I have not bought a new car since 2000 - which was my beloved Daihatsu Terios, which I was so attached to. With hindsight,I now wish I had never left her in Kenya as you can no longer get these cars in Europe. Had I know this at the time, I would never have left her there. So I am in a quandary - do I buy a used 2009 Terios or do I buy a brand new car? I have looked at all the new cars, and it really needs to be a 4x4 for Sanday, but I want something small. What a dilemma lol!

I currently own an old Ford Mondeo (cost £500) and an old Audi (cost £300) - both are ancient cars, both are 1999 models, and they are purely what we term "isles cars" which means they have failed their annual MOT test and although they can be driven on Sanday, they cant be driven off the island.

Is this the car I was talking about some time back, Drac? The Nissan Juke?

I would prefer it in bright purple, but unfortunately all the other colours they are offering are all very boring - why do new cars come in such boring colours?

Thank goodness! I'm so glad that you finally sold it and can move on from that horrible experience. Now to just sell that extra car. I think you deserve a glass of wine - or a bunch of chocolates!

Afraid not - the island is too small to accommodate anything like that, Diat. Thats why we have so many rusting abandoned vehicles all over Sanday. My gypsy neighbour has 7 - I counted them today ha ha!

The reason the Audi failed its MOT - it has corrosion holes in the sub frame - unfortunately all cars here have an ongoing battle with the dreaded rust here!

Will I never get away from this rust problem - I had exactly the same thing in Kenya - every time I went away for a month to Jersey, when I returned I would always have to replace something in the PC. If you didnt use appliances there every single day, in a short time the rust would get to it.
