This is truly a very worrying situation that seems to be spreading like wildfire over the entire globe.
I often wonder why God invented mosquitoes, flies and wasps.

This Zika virus is a very scary thing. This last super El Niño combined with the increasing temperatures caused by climate change created the perfect storm for them to proliferate like mad. They've always been there, but the population just exploded over the last couple of years. I was listening to a program on NPR the other day about all the efforts to deal with them including one where they introduce male mosquitoes whose offspring die soon after hatching. They are madly trying to develop a vaccine, but that will take years.
I guess everything has a purpose somehow - who knew there would be so many humans someday to be made miserable by all these creatures! Although I agree that I fail to see why we REALLY need mosquitoes and flies! Wasps I can see as some species can be pollinators.

There are stories of pregnant women wanting to abort, but I read that the virus stays in the body forever and can affect future pregnancies as well. This is truly tragic.

Not all, but many of the little guys do. I think there a wasp that is very important to pollination in fig trees.

This is terrible, and I did not realize that the virus stays with a person!!!! That is really bad!!! We were nervous our sister in law just had her baby last week.. even though they don't show Tennessee as having any cases you never know!

And now they have a case in Texas where the virus was sexually transmitted. Now that is even scarier.

It's starting to aggravate the living hell out of me though... they are telling women in Brazil to not get pregnant for 2 years. Hah! Women down there have zero choices in whether they get pregnant or not. Why aren't they telling the MEN to avoid impregnating anyone? Rape and incest and rampant in the rural regions and women have no say at all...

On the way home today I heard that in Venezuela the government says 4,000 infected... doctors say 250,000 to 400,000.. and it can be transmitted by saliva and sexual transmission....
