Bummer!
I got a call from my credit card bank and somebody used my number to purchase a time share and a bunch of software.
The bank caught it in time, thank goodness, but they are cancelling it out and sending me a new one. That means I've got to make a changes to some of my accounts, which is the pits. This is the second time in two years that this happened. It makes me want to use cash.
I’m more confused than a chameleon in a bagful of Skittles.

Grrr..... I've had this happen twice, but it's been a good 10 years since it happened. Heaven bless my credit card that they caught it both times and there were no problems. But it is a pain to change some of your accounts. It was easier this last time because I use a password manager and part of it is a protected form filler. I changed everything in there and when I went to my accounts that needed to be updated, used the password manager to do it. Made life so much easier.

We had our card compromised and were pretty sure it had to be in one of the stores we'd used that week. Annoyingly, although we caught it right away and it was cancelled, the card company wouldn't tell us where this came from, which would have been nice as we would have known not to shop there again. Damned privacy laws!

I was able to find out where the charge happened on this last one because I have on-line access to my credit card account. The charge was clearly there and from a Craig's List purchase in California. The origin of the charge was even obvious, so I hope they pursued it.

Disturbing when this happens - I try to use cash more than I used to now.

My credit card has also been compromised recently and it was cancelled immediately, and many thanks to the vigilant team who spotted this.
However, I have to say that I have in fact been contacted many many times in the past couple of years by the Credit Card Fraud Team - to be told of unusual or high usage on my card - only to assure them that it was in fact me "burning" the credit card lol!

I'm totally OK with them notifying me of unusual useage! It sure beats the alternative!
I remember a number of years ago that I got a call from my son's credit card company. He couldn't be reached and I was listed as a contact. This was before cell phones... They had detected usage on the card in another state and wanted to know if it was legit or should they freeze the card. I said to PLEASE not freeze the card as they were traveling from New Mexico to Missouri for a vacation and would be stuck sleeping in their car!

Re: Bummer!
I've had several credit cards compromised over the years. I just had one card compromised last month...the second time in the past two years. One time, I was pretty sure that the breach occurred because a vendor stored my credit card info after the purchase. I now make a point of deleting the info at all vendors once the transaction has cleared. Unfortunately, certain sites where you're a club member (for example, Big Fish) the info remains stored. This last time, I'm not sure where the breach occurred. Each time, the credit card company has caught it and notified me, but it is a huge pain in the arse.
Re: Bummer!
I get a text message from my bank immediately after making a purchase with my card, sometimes even before it has been cleared at the cashier's desk. I also receive an email immediately on payments. The same happens with my online purchases. So I would be alerted of any fraudulent purchase straight away and can cancel. Happened once many years ago and it was stopped before any damage done.
