So I'm done with that, but I've had the building contractor in since Monday. I'm having repairs and painting done to my late husband's room, the hallway, and the dining room, and new doors will be installed in all but the great room. Not only did I have to relocate pictures, knick-knacks, and the smaller pieces of furniture, but I also had to finish boxing Dave's books and then shift and relocate 6 bookcases of my books, including two which stretch floor to ceiling high. My sister and I were laughing because right now our great room looks like it belongs to a hoarder. Put all this to-ing and fro-ing together with only 5 hours sleep for the past 3 nights, and I feel like I've been in a train wreck. Between the air compressor and hammering, the chattering of the workers in Spanish, their radio playing Latino music, and the dogs barking at every little sound, there's no way I can catch a nap either. I'll probably just drop in my tracks after dinner tonight.

A crazy week...
...and it's only Wednesday! I had jury duty this week, but only had to go in yesterday. There were two civil cases scheduled. For the first one, my number didn't get called for selection, and for the second one, the parties decided to settle without a trial.
So I'm done with that, but I've had the building contractor in since Monday. I'm having repairs and painting done to my late husband's room, the hallway, and the dining room, and new doors will be installed in all but the great room. Now I want a great room...All the rooms in my house are fair to middling, none of them I could particularly describe as great.

Just keep telling yourself how good it's going to look when it's finished.
Re: A crazy week...
Oh, wow, this sounds like it's going to be wonderful when it's done. That is assuming, I guess, that you survive it! I hope there will be pictures!
And this reminds me that my Dave asked me to thank you again for the books - he has read every one already and it sure helped pass a long, yucky winter for him. My Harley friend Paul also mentioned to me a couple of weeks ago what a thrill it's been to go through and read the motorcycle books. He's rationing them to only 1 a month so he will have plenty to read for a good long time to come!

The crown molding looks nice, and I'm really looking forward to the new white 6-panel doors. This house, built in the late 1950s, has the original hollow wood doors, and they are very dark and shabby looking. The new ones will brighten things up quite a bit.
I'm glad those books found good homes. Even after sending out so many, I still have about 265 that need homes. I may donate them to one of the veterans' nursing homes.
We added it onto the back of the house when my mom and sister moved in, just so we could spread out a little more without always bumping into each other.

Well, I'd rate it as a pretty good great room.Lucien21 wrote:Now I want a great room...All the rooms in my house are fair to middling, none of them I could particularly describe as great.

I love books, I love seeing them on bookshelves, I love seeing them on my bookshelves, but I'm now tending to get new books as ebooks.
Hope you're very happy with what the house will look like after all this work Lady K!

I hate having anyone in our house especially contractors. I hope you did get some sleep LadyK. I bet the room is going to look great. Be sure and take some pics for us

Can't wait for the pics - I am sure all the upheaval and noise will be worth it in the end.

Re: A crazy week...
Creak...groan! I have been working all day rearranging books and furniture, and tonight I am wiped. Making the decision about what to keep and what to give away is almost as tough as the physical part, but I am slowly making progress. My neighbor came over to help me move a chair, and he chose some of Dave's books on airplanes and ships to share with his grandson, so little by little that pile is getting smaller.
Oh, and my devil dogs had a great escape today. I guess they recently discovered that the zap wire around the property is no longer working because they dug their way under the fence and ended up in the same neighbor's yard. Fortunately, his yard is also fenced in, so when I went to fetch them, they were having a grand old time exploring. After dragging them home, I filled in the hole and put a bunch of my big rocks along that soft area.

Well, in spite of the creaking and groaning, it does sound like the end might be in sight for your renovations, LadyK!

The light at the end of the renovation tunnel is still a bit faint, Drac, but I'm getting there.
Today I went with my sister, our cousin, and a friend to a fashion show and ticket auction luncheon, which is an annual fund raiser for Contact, the 24-hour crisis intervention hotline in our area. It was neat because all of us won at least one item, but our friend won an adult tricycle and a large indoor plant with 100 lottery tickets attached to it. We had to get someone with a pickup truck to help haul the trike since my Saturn couldn't hold both us and the loot, but we had a great time anyway and laughed a lot.

Oh my what luck!! Mind you an adult three-wheeler does sound like fun! Glad you all enjoyed yourselves. Funny how 'girls' together seem to have a barrel of laughs.
