I Must Be Getting Old

Post by StarLite »

Are you sick of noise in your neighborhood like I am. People in this neighborhood are starting to get so noisy, stereos blearing all night long sometimes. And stereos so loud you can here it through the house like it's being played indoors.

You can't talk to these people because they're so belligerent. I thought I could talk to my next door neighbor after everything we did for them (glad they appreciated it) till I pointed out the noise was coming from their house. So what did they do, they turned it up louder. We've decided to try not to let it bother us, we're getting too old to fight these people, you can't talk to them at all, I don't really want to resort to calling the by-law people, so we've choose to ignore it and block it out. On the plus side it isn't 24-7, YET and let's hope it doesn't get to that.

Americans, beware, StarLite and hubby are going to land on US soil in the near future. Hubby is talking about moving to the US when we're done with our insurance. The cold here is getting too much for us, so he wants us to go somewhere warm, we're thinking somewhere in Arizona. He says that the desert air is supposed to be good on allergies and eczema. For some reason my heart is drawing me to Pahrump, maybe the aliens want me there. So close down the border here I come

I ran into the noise problem in my neighborhood starting about 15 years ago. People were buying dogs and letting them bark all day and night, and the kids would play in the street and scream all day. Lots of problems with vandalizing, too. I think it was because the older people were moving out or dying, or letting their kids with their kids move in with them. Now it is much quieter, except for all the sirens when the young guys are shooting at each other.

I have always been extremely noise intolerant, which seems to get worse as I get older. Like you, Jude, I simply cant stand dogs who bark non-stop all day long, just for the sake of it. If my dogs bark, it is for a reason, and not just because they want to. That is one of the reasons I came here to live. No sirens, hardly any traffic and no dogs wandering around on their own. I do however have to put up with barking dogs all around me, but I also try to block it out.

What I do have to put up with are neighbours from Hell - my beautiful conservatory overlooks their "gypsy encampment cum scrapyard" - they have ruined this Island from the first day they arrived here, and that is the opinion of most of us here. I could write a book on their "goings on" LOL.

The reason I live in the country is noise... can't tolerate it. Now roosters crowing outside my window or hummingbirds making lots of twittering noise... those I'm OK with. I think it's just people noise I loathe.

I'm right there with you all! Have to confess one of our little dogs is a barker, especially if squirrels in the big tree at the end of the back garden are involved, but hopefully I stop her before she gets to the very annoying stage. Generally the promise of a biscuit will do it! Rosa, hope your bete noires don't have a computer to get nosy with.

I've taken to wearing earplugs when I sleep and sometimes when I need to concentrate and it is noisy. Flents makes some foam ones that work pretty well (they block out most noise, but really loud stuff can get through). Also, I think what saved my sanity during the really noisy times was the invention of the in-ear headphones (not earbuds). I can use them to listen to music to block out noise (without having to play it really loud like I would with normal headphones) -- they are like headphones and earplugs combined.

The older that I get, the more noise intolerant I become too. I was raised in the country and maybe that is why I love the quiet. Also, that is why I decided that if I ever retire, I have to go to an over- 55 retirement facility. I don't want young punks racing down the streets and kids on roller blades on the street and kids playing basketball.... thunk... thunk.... thunk... all day long. I guess that is the best option is to go to a retirement community of over 55 years and most people there are just out to have fun. Probably the worst one would encounter there is a loud cocktail party.

Diat, I had already thought of them spying when I posted here, but I think they already know my opinion of them

I feel better now that I know most of you are also noise intolerant - I thought I was alone with this problem!

I use earplugs if I want to sleep in because my neighborhood is a natural alarm clock. It's busy, but most of the time I don't mind it.
