Re: Rayman 2
Have you tried practicing with the whirlybird in a less crucial situation? Or does it give you limited uses? I suspect the "A" to activate may be a reference to the A button on some console's controller rather than PC. OK, I'm wrong. Just looked at the manual and it's A to jump, then A aga...

Re: The Book of Unwritten Tales--A Review
Hmm. I've seen quite a few people enthusing wildly about this game, but none of them have mentioned whether the puzzles are any good. Is that a bad sign, or is it just that the script was so hilarious that people forget to mention the gameplay is good too?

Re: Lord of the Rings Game
There have been quite a few LOTR games, BD - which one is this? War in the North, the new one? It certainly looks pretty!

Re: King's Bounty games
That's the original, but there have been some more recent additions to the series. They're quite well known for being barking mad (as well as rather good):

Out of interest, how does the combat compare to Gothic?

Re: Witcher 2 Has Gone Gold! And is Now in My Hands!
Fable the Lost Chapters was the PC release with extra content and was generally well received, though I never managed to get it to run. Fable II was only for consoles but III is back on PC and looking quite promising.

Re: Witcher 2 Has Gone Gold!
I got the pre-order deal from GOG at last minute - best value, nice extras and DRM-free!
Of course I'll want to play Witcher 1 first, and I'm not sure when I'll have time or whether I'll need a new computer before I can even get 2 to run. So it might be a while. Looking forward to it though!

Re: open to suggestions
Bloodlines is somewhat easier to get hold of since it appeared on Steam a while back. In fact Direct2Drive appear to have it at half price currently, though I don't know if that's the UK site only. I'd highly recommend the game - it's pretty phenomenal, not like anything else, properly grown-up writ...

Re: Alice!!!
Alice was visually and conceptually rather beautiful and well scripted but too often frustrating to play. It had some good design points (more games should have the footprints!) but the basic run/jump/shoot/fall off/die was a bit broken.
Worth playing to the end if you can get there though!

Indeed! And there was a free game for everyone who had an account before the relaunch, too!

Re: A-GOG about Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate is fine - but they've got Planescape:Torment! One of the best- (and most-) written games ever, finally widely available again and runnable on current hardware!

Re: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Running at startup is definitely bad! You shouldn't need to go into MSConfig though - if you look at the interface settings in the steam client there's a checkbox for "Run Steam when my computer starts" that you can uncheck. I suspect Steam is more irksome the fewer games you have on it - ...

Re: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
That's odd - it shouldn't be starting up again if you haven't launched another game that uses it. You definitely used the close/exit on the menu rather than just the X to close the menu? If you're online it will connect to the server each time you launch a game. But if you're not connected to the ne...

Re: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
Drac, you shouldn't need to use task manager to close Steam - there should be a little icon in the system tray (on the right hand end of the taskbar) that you can right-click and tell it to close. The fact that it leaves itself running when you quit the game is a little annoying, but it does mean th...

Re: Fable the Lost Chapters
I got the game a while back, was really looking forward to it but couldn't get it to run. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime soon.
