Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing

I quite like them too. They're generally busywork but quite calming and satisfying to get done. I generally work from the corner opposite where the blank needs to end up. So if (as is most often the case) the blank should end up in the bottom right, I'll start with the top row, then the left hand si...

Re: New Computer Advice

And more so if you're getting a laptop since you can't just whip out the graphics card and put a fancier one in! You can always get a docking station and plug in a proper keyboard, monitor etc so I wouldn't worry too much about those - but the modularity makes a difference to me.

Re: What Are You Reading?

I'm reading Resolution by Denisa Mina, the conclusion of the Garnethill trilogy (not sure if I've mentioned the previous ones). Crime drama set in Glasgow - it's got some serious grimness in it but well enough written that it's not unbearable. The characters have a real life to them and there's frie...

Aww, that's nice to hear her. Is Amanda's outfit a Phantasmagoria reference?

Re: HDMI Cables for Monitor

Some monitors have a built in USB hub - maybe that's what would cause this confusion?

Re: What social media do people use?

Facebook because everyone's on it and it's currently my only means of keeping in touch with a lot of old friends.
Twitter for following game developers and other creative types and having (usually friendly) disagreements with Doctor Who fans.

Does changing the resolution in the Windows screen settings (right-clicking in an empty space on the desktop should open them) work for you?

Re: Is having groups of games in a database useful?

If you were deciding whether to have groups at all and it turned out all the ones you'd group were similarly named, I might say don't bother. But if you've already got groups then yes, definitely include groups of games whose titles would already indicate their grouping. If I were specifically brows...

Re: Simon the Sorcerer 3d

Hasbro were originally supposed to publish the game but I don't think they did in the end - Adventuresoft published it themselves so I guess they'd still hold the rights. Which increases the chances that the original source code would be available if they did decide to revamp/remake the game, and th...

Re: What Adventure Game Are You Playing

I liked Keepsake a lot - I have a feeling I got it as a prize here! There were a few infuriating aspects (puzzles where you had to go back and forth across multiple rooms for each attempt at a solution, and one puzzle that was outright broken and I don't know of anyone but me who solved it without a...

Re: Freebie

I played it a few years ago and enjoyed it a lot - a fun story and a lovely old-school feel that reminded me of some of the Spectrum games I grew up with. Recommended!
