Re: The Book of Unwritten Tales--A Review

The puzzling in BoUT is fairly easy, about on the level of Syberia . While we did hit a walkthrough a couple of times, in every instance it was because we hadn't looked at an item enough times or gone back to talk to someone about a change in circumstances. In this respect, it is unusual for me to b...

The Book of Unwritten Tales--A Review

Typically, I begin a review with a little background about the game, discussing its pedigree and resume. I'm going to eschew that here and start with this: BUY THIS GAME! The Book of Unwritten Tales (henceforth abbreviated BoUT) is a classic point-and-click fantasy adventure game, harkening back to ...

It still makes me laugh, and I've seen it dozens of times. It was from a series of shorts called "8-Bit Theater" by a group knows as the Dead Alewives or something like that. They put out several D&D/Final Fantasy bits.

Re: Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

Here's some additional info: I installed Win98SE on my virtual machine, as that allows me to play any old game that isn't DOS-only. (I have DosBox for those.) Perhaps the most important requisite is that you must NOT ONLY have an installation disk (or ISO of such a disk) for your "guest" O...

Re: Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

Thanks, BJ. The XP Mode that you can get with Win 7 Professional and up is not the cure-all for gamers anyway as it does not support 3D. It is meant to be a business application and that's it. Great addition to the thread! Thanks. And ignore the PM I just sent you. I didn't see you'd posted this.

Re: Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

I know this thread is years old, but I thought it deserved an update. I am now running Windows 7 Home Premium. According to Microsoft's main page on the subject, that means that I can't get the WinXP Mode/VM add-on. (You have to have Win7 Professional or better to get them free.) THIS IS NOT QUITE T...

Re: open to suggestions

For Quake/Diablo engine fans, Torchlight was pretty decent. Less successful than Fate, but I enjoyed it more.

Re: open to suggestions

I recall Oblivion as being first-person too, but not turn-based and having to manually swing your sword around using the mouse.

Re: open to suggestions

I would add Dragon Age : Origins , Elder Scrolls : Oblivion , Divinity II : Ego Draconis (liked it a lot !) , & Hunted : The Demon's Forge to that list . Also , any of the old Dungeons & Dragons based rpg games (Icewind Dale 1&2 , Baldurs Gate 1&2 , Planescape Torment , Temple of El...

Re: open to suggestions

Will remember the patches and where did you buy for $12? At CompUSA, back when they had a brick-and-mortar store here. I see that Amazon currently has a used-like-new copy for $15 + $3 shipping. Worth every penny, given the length of the game. [EDIT: I was looking at the boxed version of the game. ...

If you get it, make sure you download both patches for it. I only spent $12 for my copy. New.

Re: open to suggestions

I know this thread is old, but I'm chiming in because I noticed that nobody mentioned my favorite RPG: Anachronox.
