1/2 C shortening (Crisco) 1/2 tsp vinegar
  1 1/2 C sugar 1 tsp baking soda
  2 eggs  
  2 1/2 C flour (sifted 3 times) Red Mix:
  pinch of salt 3 tbls Nestle's Instant Quick
  1 C buttermilk 2 oz red food coloring
  Cooking Instructions:  
  (Red Mix) - Mix in small bowl and set aside:
3 tbls Nestle Instant Quick and 2 oz Red Food Coloring

In a large bowl cream: 1/2 cup shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar.
Add 2 eggs and mix well (beat until creamy) and then add red mix
and mix well.
Add 2 1/2 cups flour (sifted 3 times), pinch of salt and 1 cup
buttermilk. Mix well for 2 minutes.
Remove beater and with SPOON stir in 1/2 tsp vinegar (mix real well).
Add 1 tsp soda and mix well again.
Note:  be sure and add vinegar and soda separately.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

  1 stick butter 3 tbls. flour
  cup Crisco 2/3 cup sweet milk
  1 cup sugar 1 tsp. vanilla

Beat until creamy, 1 stick butter, 1/2 cup Crisco and 1 cup sugar
Add 3 tbls. flour (1 tbls. at a time), 2/3 cup sweet milk, 1 tsp. vanilla.
Beat until light and fluffy.  Spread on cooled cake.
