Well, Browser slowed down to such a crawl that I am getting messages: See attachment.

Called TW again and this tech told me to go to tools, options, privacy and then click on Remove all cookies. Did that and now again Firefox seems to be doing better. How long that will last I do not know.

I told her about how I frequently do CCleaner + Internet options and delete everything - history, cookies etc. But the tech could never understand what I was asking when I wanted to know if that did not do the same thing as the path she gave me did re cookies. Too tired to have to fight the language barrier.

I try to keep my cool, be politely while many times I am sighing in desperation at how much the techs either do not understand or do not know. No sense in burning bridges with ones server.

She also had me turn off my PC, wait 30 seconds and then fire up again. So maybe that helped also.

Did it again - forgot the attachment so here 'tis. Oh oh see red message. OK will copy and paste. Below is the message I got and it is not the first time. This is when I get this message and think my message did not go so go through all the motions to send again when I get on MM, see that in fact my post did go! So what gives with this message then?

Is Mystery Manor the only site you are having trouble with ? I can remember Drac saying on a couple of occasions , where this site was down/experiencing problems . An idea . Try a accessing a couple of sites , such as Microsoft or Google , see if you have any trouble .

BD, I got the same error tonight from Mystery Manor. It is a glitch at the website and has nothing to do with your browser or your computer. The 404 error means the site was not available for a few minutes. If you go to other websites with no issues, that will tell you that it was a problem with Mystery Manor. Mystery Manor was also very slow earlier. When this happens, as Faust suggests, you should go to other websites to see it the problem persists there. As I said before, the vast majority of the time that Firefox seems slow, it is because a particular website is slow, not because your browser or your computer or your internet connection is slow.

Agreed Drac . I had this small thought that the troubles might have been virus/malware related .

And always a possibility. However, I happen to know that BD keeps her computer squeaky clean!

Yep squeaky clean and antiseptically so! Will check other sites to see how it is going when I find it slow here or get that error message again. Think I have gotten it about 4 times in the last few days.

Been experimenting a bit and am finding my IE runs just as slowly as Firefox around using the MM site AND other sites!!!!! Also got this new error message today when trying to access all my posts on MM to study them:

Return to the index page
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Duplicate entry 'bba6629d057c3e3daf445e519ce8fdf2' for key 1 [1062]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

Please notify the board administrator or webmaster: ghostlady@mysterymanor.net

Not complaining - just informing. Anything I can do re my end to help? Have also just done a complete cleaning and deep scanning using all my tools to check my PC. Coming up clean so far. All I have left to do is defrag (whether it needs it or not) and do that deep disc scan which takes forever. Will do tonight as I head for lala land

T

Trying to find what on my PC might be, if anything, contributing to all of this - error messages, slowness etc. I do have a program called Sandbox. I never opted for it as I remember so it might have come in on the back of some other program? In purported warns me about, usually games, that should be run in the Sandbox for safety sake. Which I usually do. And that reminds me I am so stuck in an old game about finding an article and since it is older, people do not remember in order to help I suspect; so could playing this game in the Sandbox mean anything?

   to MM for help and if no one is able to help - opportunity to vent :?

Always makes me wonder about things that piggy back into my PC un-beknowns to me. Keep or delete? If I delete does that affect the program I opted for?

If I remember correctly, you have Avast for your anti-virus? If so, that's where Sandbox comes from. I have no idea whether playing in the Sandbox could have anything to do with the game. If you trust a game, there's no reason to play it in the Sandbox anyway. I think right now people are concentrating on competing in our Fall Tournament, so that's why no one has stepped in to help out in that game. Or maybe the Tournament puzzles have just fried their brains!!

You can read more about the sandbox in Avast here...Avast Sandbox Or just Google Avast Sandbox - there are tons of articles about it.

Mystery Manor has been so slow for me the last couple of days in IE, Firefox and Chrome that I posted about it in the Staff Room. I've been getting the 404 and 505 errors too. Ghostlady is on vacation, so we will have to wait until she returns to see if she can figure out what's going on.

Basically , what the sandbox in Avast is for , as with other sandbox programs , is to keep potentially unsafe programs from spreading to the rest of the computer , & therefore causing headaches . The Sandbox in Avast can be disabled , if I'm not mistaken , by right clicking the Avast icon in your system tray . MM has always been a bit slow to load , at least on my end . More of a pain than a problem . Out of curiosity BD , what firewall are you using ? The reason I ask , & this may be a far fetched idea , is I wonder if maybe your firewall is possibly corrupted in some form or fashion , & either restricting ports 80 (port for net surfing) , & ports 443 (port used to sign in to private sites , like forums) , or shutting them down all together .

While that's certainly possible, there is definitely an issue with the site right now. I have a sneaking suspicion I know what it is, but we have to wait for Ghostlady to get back from vacation.

Maybe I'm just lucky then , not having any major problems with the site . Whatever your "sneaking suspicion" is , if it fixes things when Ghostlady returns , then it's all good ! :) :)

It's been working MUCH better the last couple of hours than it has for a day or so for me, so perhaps my suspicion is baseless!

Faust: Well windows firewall is turned on and Avast firewall is also on set to work schedule which is the default. Thinking maybe I should turn one off? OR reset the Avast Work schedule to Home?
