This certainly is not an earth shaking problem; however it worked once and wondering what happened that it is not functioning the same now. I recorded a list of about 30 bird calls to play to entertain my two birds.

It used to play right down the list naming the bird as it played. Now I notice that it jumps around on the list, playing a few at the top, then jumping to the bottom of the list, then back again to the top. I suspect also that it is missing quit a few of the birds as it begins half way down the list.

I looked at the icons and note that some have a musical note on them while others have the same note but with a tiny picture in the background. Not sure if this means anything re this issue. Have tried opening both kinds of icons in Windows Media Player but does not seem to affect the jumping around on the list.

Might anyone have some knowledge of sound in XP Home Edition?

1) What player are you using. WMP?
2) What format are the calls? (MP3, WAV, OGG?) Are they all the same format?

And aren't you supposed to be playing Anachronox? :geek:

Yeah am trying to get to Anachronox but today has been a disaster. Had to get my car smog tested - wasted over an hour trying to find the darn place. People sure do not know how to give directions.

Then of course had to wait at the smog place awhile. Then had to get to drs. office to request some tests. Wasted good part of an afternoon. Plan to try to play some tonight.

Also remember I have severe arthritis (have had 5 major surgeries just to be able to stay on my feet and out of the clutches of - crutches, canes, wheelchair, scooters etc.) plus have fibromyalgia. These two conditions zap my energy. So after chores are done and I am about done in - then I try to hit the game. Sometimes not too alert by then but what the hey - want to get into it and see what it is all about.

Re my sound - Yep have windows media player on my PC
They are all wave files except some which are not noted as to
what they are. But they have the musical note on the icon
as the WAV files plus a tiny picture of some
sort. So they are different in that respect.
I tried opening them in WMP but did not seem to
change anything.

OK off to Anachronox.

It sounds like the files that won't play are are likely some other type of sound file (not WAVs) that has had its default player usurped by another program. Try going into WMP and rechecking your "File Types." Select that you want WMP as the default player for all audio file types.

Get back to us on this. It's likely easily remedied.

I agree with what BJ said. Since they used to play, try that setting to Play All File Types in WMP.

Have tried to follow through with suggestion but I cannot find in folder options any file that has that same little picture with the musical note. See attachment. I did find some pics with note and tried changing them but nothing happened.

Maybe I am doing it wrong - not understand how to do the change. Seemed to understand directions though. See attachment.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

The files with the little picture have been changed to either AVI or MOV files. (I can't tell which for sure from the picture.) The little picture is the icon used to represent video clips. If they are not videos, you need to convert them back to audio files in order to have them in the same playlist with the others.

What BJ was saying was to make sure the setting in your WMP was set to play all files, not to change your actual files. The ones with the note and the little film clip are video files of some sort - no indication of what they are - the WAV files are audio and the MP3 files are audio files in the MP3 format. Depending on which WMP version you have, it may not play MP3 files.

I would take all the files out that are not WAV files and put them in a separate file. Then just play the bird calls that are in the file with WAV files.

Good idea draclvr will do and BJ will check the AVI and MOV and see what I might be able to change there also. Again keep you posted.
