Yesterday I did a defrag, Windows did some updates, and I tried to run System Mechanic which kept freezing. After all this "housekeeping" when I logged in to MM or GB, this is what I'm getting, even after restarts.

http://s261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78 ... 1Small.jpg As you can see the white part has very faint yellow lettering which can't be read unless highlighted.

And here's the GB page: http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78 ... 2Small.jpg

Any ideas?

Are the aforementioned pages the only ones where this is happening ?

No, these were just examples. It seems to generally be happening in forum pages while regular pages are OK and not just on this computer. My husband is also finding this on his forums on a totally separate computer (separate setup but same house). It doesn't happen on IE, so I've just tried reinstalling Firefox with no luck. Also tried a System Restore but nothing.

It looks like you're missing the top layer of the skins on the websites, which take a tiny bit longer to load than the rest of the page. Usually you wouldn't notice the layers because it happens so fast.

Check your Firefox preferences under content. Is "load images automatically" checked?

Hmmm. There must be some other setting that's just giving you the bare bones page, but that's the extent of my knowledge. Sorry, Diat. It does seem strange that both computers would be doing it. Has your internet connection slowed down for any reason? Could there be a wonky main connection or a router problem?

Drac may be able to help, but she won't be available for a day or two. She's building her mom a new computer this weekend and won't be online until she gets it done.

When you tried to uninstall , did you used the program's uninstaller , add & remove programs , or an uninstaller such as Revo Uninstaller ? The reason I ask , is that frequently , standard uninstalls will usually just uninstall the program itself , but leave the browser's settings & registry settings alone . Also , do you have onboard video , or a video card ? I ask , because I wonder if your browser isn't having trouble due to a video driver problem .

It seems the problem is with Firefox, as both computers are experiencing the same problem. And we do not use a router, the other comp has its own connection. IE works fine, so it must be Firefox.

Before abandoning Firefox , use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall , then install again , see if it's still happening . I think that Firefox is corrupted somehow , & an uninstall/reinstall would solve the problem .

Revo Uninstaller : http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstall ... 87648.html

Personally , I don't use IE unless there's no other choice . Too full of security holes . That's just me . You use what you feel works for you !

I'm with you, Faust, haven't used IE for years now since being warned by my tech savvy son about the insecurities. I'll try your uninstaller and let you know what happens. Just don't understand why this would affect both machines since they're not on a network. I take it no one else is having this problem?

I'm not having those problems with Firefox, Diat. Did you both upgrade lately?

I don't have any troubles either in Firefox . My wife uses Seamonkey (a Mozilla based browser) , & she has no problems with anything either . As to why this problem would effect both machines , I'm not sure . The only thing I could think of , is that both are somehow corrupted . Good question Lady K ! Did you recently upgrade , or did Firefox upgrade itself ?

I just used Your Uninstaller to remove Firefox and then reinstalled and it's working fine now. However..............I just went and checked my husband's computer and his is also working fine even though he hadn't touched his Firefox! So it must have been a glitch on their part and I could have saved myself all that trouble. Who knows? Maybe we are connected in some way, although we have separate modems, the cable servicing us is the same. I'm going to have a nice cup of coffee now and rest my aching head.

Glad to hear that Firefox is working well ! As for your hubby's working fine as well , it's great ! Who knows , maybe you are connected . It could be that , since the Isp is the same , & the modems are the same , maybe there was some sort of crosstalk going on between the modems . In the scheme of things , now that both are working fine , what the cause of the problem now is irrelevant .

And my apologies for being absent. But not to fear when Faust is near! Had to be an anomaly with your ISP since it happened on both your computers. I've been in and out of Firefox and IE all weekend and have not had any issues.

Got Mom's new computer up and running, but have been busy with helping her with housework she has a hard time with, getting her gas fireplace ready for winter, storm doors, etc. We only had two days to get a ton of stuff done! Heading out early tomorrow morning for the 600 mile drive back home.
