I just downloaded the free Game Giveaway of the Day, and when I clicked Open, nothing happened, so I am guessing I must have to download an unzipping programme? It doesnt come with Windows 7?

Hmm, don't know about Windows 7 but I just downloaded it onto my XP computer. Normally with these games I just click on the setup and extract all files, but this time it went to that WinRar thing that I had to download to open something odd. Draclvr should know about 7, hopefully she will check in sometime today. If not you can get the WinRar trial for now, it opened fine with that program.

Hi,
Yes Windows 7 does have it's own built in Zip program, here is the link on how to do it and MS explains better than I can

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -zip-files

But if you are not too crazy about their Zip program and many are not, there is an Excellent free one called 7Zip:

http://download.cnet.com/7-Zip/3000-225 ... 45185.html

Good luck and have fun with your game.
Ray

But if Win7 has an inbuilt programme, then why am I getting the error message Windows cannot open this Folder??

Edit: I have now downloaded that programme, Ray, but I am now getting the error message that the file lis invalid.

I think I need to download this game again! Oh darn, I cant - It's tomorrow already - Never mind

Sorry, but we had a big BBQ here yesterday. Our German family is here for 3 weeks again.

As Ray says, Windows 7 has its own unzip program and it works very well for me. You just right click a zipped file and select where you want it unzipped to. If it's an rar file, 7-Zip that Ray mentions is absolutely the best for all kinds of zipped files. But since you have 64-bit Windows 7, you should download the one for that OS. Try downloading from the 7-Zip website itself.

7-Zip

What happens when you right click a zipped file and select Extract All?

A Big Thanks  for that Input Draclvr re: “But since you have 64-bit….you should download the one for that OS”. This is something that I will have to enter into my thick skull that more and more people have 64 bit machines and when I make recommendations that I should take that into consideration, oh well, one is never too old to learn new stuff  ..

It took me awhile to remember too, Ray! You may not have known that Rosaboobie got a new gaming laptop with Windows 7 on it.

You were not to know, Ray, that I have 64 bit - I also need to remember this also, but thankfully Drac remembered for us all!

Dear draclvr and Rosaboobie,
Thank you for your kind words on my missing the 64 bit, but yet it is still a lesson for me who has a fair amount of experience in computers to Not Oversee in the future, true that most of my exp. is with 32 bit machines and going back to 16 bit machines and let us not forget the Old 8 bit Atari’s and Texas instruments, oh where those the Fun Old Days, all Text Games where you had to Type and Type and Type ones way around and around, but still a lot of fun though.

Also to add in the mix, the 128 bit machines are not that far away, that should be something else of a challenge.

So Rosaboobie, have you solved your Zipped problem? Just curious, which free game did you download?

Again, thanks for your support and kindness, I send you both 100 Virtual Kisses and Hugs :bighug

Rosaboobie, have you right clicked on the file and selected Extract All from the popup menu? Windows 7 has an unzip program built in.

What is the exact name of the file? Does it have a zipper on it like the 2nd pictuer? If the file is zipped/compressed, when you right click the popup menu looks like the 1st picture.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
