Ready to try Firefox 7 but unsure:

1 - how save bookmarks have checked around but found nothing to help
2 - should present Firefox be uninstalled before downloading F-7
3 - anything else I should know about installing/beginning to use F-7

Thanks for any help out there :)

What version of Firefox are you running right now ? Usually , you can install a new version over the old version . I've done that , & never had any problems . Then again , I usually let Firefox update itself .

Do this , I back up my Firefox bookmarks this way .

Got to Bookmarks , Show All Bookmarks , Import And Backup

Choose "Backup" . A .json file will be created . You can store the file anywhere , My Documents perhaps . When you install the new Firefox , repeat the same process for backup , only choose "Restore" , then "Choose File" . Navigate to your bookmarks .json file , click on it , & you should be good to go !

Ah ha between not searching thoroughly enough and reading some of the comments from people who had tried to backup and lost all their bookmarks, guess I got spooked about backing up. My bookmarks/favorites are like my daily calendar, if I lost them - might as well go shoot myself, wouldn't remember what is going on in my life at all

Found your path you gave and now have bookmarks sitting on my desktop. So will go ahead and install 7 over my present version which is 6 and see how it goes. Will let you know how successful I have been.

Now where do you live so if this does not work out, I can come and shoot you? I often say this to salespeople when I am making a purchase of something rather large or trying to do something. At first they are rather startled and then they see me grinning and relax often with a comeback. Strange how in today's less than secure world a joke can often frighten people.

Believe me , you're not the first to ask where I live , so they could shoot me ! It's all good , I got the joke !!

What I described for you , is for a clean install . Seeing as how you are going to install v7 over v6 with your bookmarks in place , you should be ok . It didn't hurt to back up your bookmarks anyway , so no harm done . A less than secure world ? Possibly . I think it more attributed to everyone trying to be pc , worried about offending someone & getting sued over it . Just my 2 cents .

Sad to say Faust I think you may be correct - it is such a sue happy world today over some of the most ridiculous things. No one wants to assume any responsibility for their actions much. And I think the most nervous, jittery and apprehensive people are doctors nowadays. Maybe for good reason.

Seems to me when I see a doctor now they always come into the room "tip toeing with anxious looks on their faces, and lots of 'ifs and ands' about the remarks they make re one's condition or meds prescribed. Poor souls - may not live as long now under such stress as they used to in days gone by.

Thanks, Faust! We're in Denver visiting the grandkids and I'm probably not going to be around much this weekend.

I haven't done the update to Firefox 7, but will probably go for it when I get back.

Well, Faust I do not have to come and shoot you. Installing/upgrading Firefox went without a hitch and even the bookmarks came along with no problem. So will tuck my backups away for the future and explore F-7. So far it does seem faster.

Maye I should not read people's comments re PC adjusting - get too caught up in other people's problems so that it causes anxiety around my PC. The upgrade went so easily and smoothly that either (ahem) I am good, or have a top rate PC setup, or good tech advice or it was just my lucky day today

It appears I will have to wait to install Firefox 7.0. My Roboform is not compatible and I would be unable to live without my Roboform password manager!!

Out of curiosity Drac , have you ever tried LastPass ? It's a password manager as well , & is compatible with Firefox , in all versions .

Roboform is also compatible - they just haven't updated their toolbar yet. I've been using Roboform for years and have the paid versions. So, I'll just stick with Firefox 6.0.2 until they get the toolbar updated! But Lastpass is a good one... Black Dahlia is looking for one, so I will mention it to her.

Fair enough ! Dad has used LastPass for years . He recommended it to me not long after he started using it . Maybe that toolbar will be update soon ! Maybe Black Dahlia will find LastPass useful .

Drac. and Faust. I have Keepass that you sent link for Drac. and in trying to understand it, just could not at all. Tried several things and only got more confused. I did manage a key password to use for all but could not figure out how to get my passwords onto the program.

So now is LastPass different than Keepass? Any easier maybe? I am hopeless when it comes to some of this stuff - unless it is in 1-2-3 order with easy to follow instructions from git-go to end.

have been using Firefox and organized the bookmarks very well; like this browser, but it is getting slower and slower. On looking for things on internet, sometimes seems to take forever. And on occasion just will not load at all.

May be my configuration or some program not liking Firefox? Not sure what to do to boost it up a bit. Maybe after I get Win 7 installed it will perk up on a 64 bit and the great organization I hear about Win 7?

Is it Firefox that's not responding or your internet connection? If you click on a link or a website and it takes a long time, that's probably not your browser, but your internet. Mine is like that at certain times of the day too.

I can give Time Warner a tech call and see what they say. Interesting if it is on their plate. It seems to be slow all the time however not just certain times. Let you know their response.
