I remember Gorillas! This may be the first time I've heard of anyone trying to run qbasic under Vista, though. From what I remember the game also ran badly on a fast computer - it used a flat delay loop rather than real time, so you wouldn't be able to see the bananas in flight if the loop finished too quickly (and the maximum size of the loop wasn't big enough to slow it down significantly on the computer I had in 1996!) so unless you're planning on rewriting the program with a more effective method of slowing it down, it won't be much good on anything current. DOSBox does sound like the way to go - then you can adjust the system speed to match what the game wants.
