I just downloaded Gorillas, which is a QBasic game that I used to play many many years ago. It works great on my XP computer, but when I downloaded it onto my hubby's laptop that is Vista it says: This system does not support fullscreen mode. Is there a way to change the settings on the laptop that we can play that game?

Have you tried changing the screen resolution on your monitor?

It would depend on what the game resolution is. Just play around with different resolutions - maybe start with 600 x 800 and see if you still get the same message.

I believe this is an old DOS game, so you may have to use something like DOS Box to play it.

This is an old Dos game, but I think revamped to run on newer computers. I downloaded it with the Qbasic and without doing anything it runs great on the XP. I will play around with the screen resolutions and see if that helps. thanks.

I remember Gorillas! This may be the first time I've heard of anyone trying to run qbasic under Vista, though.
From what I remember the game also ran badly on a fast computer - it used a flat delay loop rather than real time, so you wouldn't be able to see the bananas in flight if the loop finished too quickly (and the maximum size of the loop wasn't big enough to slow it down significantly on the computer I had in 1996!) so unless you're planning on rewriting the program with a more effective method of slowing it down, it won't be much good on anything current.
DOSBox does sound like the way to go - then you can adjust the system speed to match what the game wants.

Phlebas, this was rewritten by someone to play on newer computers. It works great on my XP without me doing anything. I still haven't tried changing the settings on the laptop yet.... grandkids here. I was thinking it would be a fun game for kids, kind of a geometry lession in a game.

I am on the laptop now and I changed it to every resolution to get this game to work, but to no avail. I think we can't play it on Vista OS. I played it this morning on my regular computer and forgot how much fun it was. I like it when I finally hit the other gorilla and watching their arms flail around.
